I got an offer to live in Florida this summer for a month and do field work for the Florida DEP in the watershed ecology department. Any one with experience on Florida diving.

Yeah- It's Frick'n AWESOME! This should be a no-brainer. Fo Sho.

Yeah, its going to be in fort myers. Im just a little bit concerned about maybe missing some football stuff, but this is soo tempting I don't think I can say no. Where did you guys go spearfishing when you were down there?

Ft Myers is a nice area. I'm not sure how the diving is. Ask JimDoe, he is in that area. The gulf is shallow and warm. Take 4 days to for to Ft Lauderdale for FIT or PFI

I like Sarasota, Venice and Ft Myers.

We did some spearfishing at the SKYWAY just south of Tampa Bay and also in FT Lauderdale. I agree with ILDiver- Do what you can to take a Class down there. Worth every Penny and more.

I'm going to do it. I don't know if Ill have time for the course. I don't think I'm getting paid for this (Ill be living with my brother), and Ill have to work all week except Sundays. Then near the end Ill have to take personal time to teach my intern that will be coming to replace me. (I am the first person into this program!) Ill definitely take lots of pictures after spending god knows how many hours freediving and counting individual blades of sea grass and attempting to keep separate tallies for each specie... Itll help me, but probably not as much as the PFI or FIT course! rofl

Go down early to take the class or go after your done That's a nice area down there, about 1.5 hours south of where Whopperhead and I were in Sarasota. You'll have fun. When is this suposed to be?

Well I am leaving on the 15th guys! Wish me luck. Apparently even if I dont recover enough to dive there is still lab work for me to do. I hope Ive got the smarts to do it!

Go man! ALWAYS go to stuff like this, especially when you're young! Have a great time and soak it up dude.

Hi fleshy, I spent a few years working for Florida DEP running oceanographic cruises with their fisheries research team. Are you working at the lab in Saint Petersburg? The diving in Florida is great. The west coast is a bit different than the east coast. You should get down to the keys while you are in Florida and head out to Looe Key or the reefs off Pennekamp park. The reefs and fish life down there are amazing.

Hello there ILDiver and Whopperhead. We met on the FIT boat while you were down . The pictures that you guys posted are great! Looks like you had a great time.

Hey, thanks Erik! I am going to miss a month of football off season training for this, but I figured my opportunity will come but once, so I intend to snag it. OceanObsessed, I will be located in Fort Meyers, and have talked some to jimdoe about diving there, but with my eardrum gone for now we do not know if that will be possible. Its a bummer, I was looking forward to the tortugas, and the rest of the keys. But who knows, my ear is feeling great. (Although I cant hear, and I am notorious for not admitting personal injuries and physical boundaries... :blackeye) We will see once I get down there, and of course after another doctors appointment. Originally I was going to be monitoring seagrass beds, which would have obviously entailed lots of diving, but now its going to be lab work I guess, and sitting on the boat? Thanks guys, and I will hopefully snag a ton of pictures while Im down.

Yeah dude that sounds so great, im glad for you! rofl Be sure to post your pics here i cant wait to see them!

Well guys Ive got the doctors appointment tomorrow, and I'm leaving on the 15th. Looking forward to seeing what is down there to be seen if the doctor okay's it. I'm sure there will be some fish that need to be taken for the sake of research while I'm monitoring seagrass beds. :t

If the guys at HSD, ever catch me calling this an "ulua" Ill probably be banned. roflHeres what I was up to today, tommorow will be work. :head
