flushing sinuses and pushing limits

How in the world could you tell I was wearing an AGA? That's really funny. It WOULD take another working diver to notice that just from the pic (where it's pushed up onto the top of my head). And no, we don't always wear them. If there is a hazmat situation (and body recovery isn't, surprisingly, considered to be a hazmat), we suit up a lot more (e.g. drysuits). We were wearing AGA on this investigation for the in-water comms...we couldn't see our dive buddies, but we could speak to them. Thanks for the compliment, by the way. I've not started work on the PhD yet, still plugging away at my assistantship and thesis. Freediving kind of took over my life...PhD will probably begin in the autumn. As long as I can keep finding ways of incorporating freediving into my research, I'll be fine! By the way, have you been to the NEDU in Panama City? We may know some of the same people!

I've been there a few times. I know a few people. We more than likely know the same people since there really isnt to many of us. Im kinda in the same boat as you with freediving. It has taken over my life. I was big into it when I was in college but now that I'm a little older (haha) I can appreciate it more and well needless to say it is all I want to do. I'm kinda lucky because I get to travel to a lot of cool places and well get paid to dive there. The freediving and spearfishing is just a bonus.

I am guessing you work around northern florida southern georgia eastern alabama area. The cave systems over that way are pretty cool. vortex springs and genie(sp?) springs. Any ways its good to see another working diver who enjoys the finer things in life like freediving as well as I do. Take care.

Many freedivers do it, to avoid building of overpressure in sinuses during the ascent. Some are able releasing the pressure easily voluntarily, others find removing the nose clip simpler.

Can you have any idea.. when a diver remove nose clip.. he/she let the sea water fill into sinuses or how he/she do not let to enter i mean by using epiglotis muscle??? think that depth is -80m ????

Water won't enter sinuses on the ascent, just as it does not enter when you are swimming. It happens only if you are head down, or inhale under water
