Footpockets repair and replacement

Day one of a two week holiday and my Omer Millenium footpocket developed an alarming split. A rummage in my car toolkit yielded a small screwdriver and a cable tie. The small scredriver was used to produce two small holes through which to thread the cable tie and disaster was averted

I've now bought new footpockets and would really appreciated any clues for making insertion of the blades into them easier please!!
