Hello all!
My name is Matt Walters. I am a senior at the University of Illinois. For my senior thesis, I have decided to design a freediving fin. I have the next 4 months to complete my research, sketch, render, and hopefully create a small scale fin.
I was wondering if I could post some questions as well as updates with my project (sketches/renderings). I have talked to great freedivers/instructors such as William Trubridge and Brian Pucella so far...
but if anyone has an interest in answering / taking a look, it would be most appreciated.

1. What does your routine consist of on competition day? (from when you wake up to when you go to bed)
a tennis player example might be:
1. wake up
2. large breakfest
3. lots of water
4. shower
5. put on sandals / warmups
6. head to the court an hour early
7. stretch while wearing warmups
8. take off wamups while warming up.
9. etc etc etc.

2. When diving downwards towards the sea floor vs. when ascending back to the surface, what are the main similarities/differences in how you use your fins?

3. Does your fin come into use more when kicking towards your stomach, or when kicking towards your back? Similarities? Differences?

4. Would you rather have a heavier fin with more power potential, or a lighter fin thats easier to kick (during competition)?
- - - - -
5. Are there any parts of the foot/leg that must be secured or must be able to flex?
- - - - -
6. Do you need to have a harder rubber/surface for the sole of your foot?
