very intense match, france dominated in terms of ball posession, but italy has a superb goalie, great game

That poor fellow Materazzi must be ill... I've seen 8yr olds take harder blows than that in football matches and stay on their feet. He was so badly hurt he didn't even get up when he applauded the (deserved) Red card for Zidane...

Congrats to Italy for the win, but why penalties? Fifa should just let them play until they drop. Much more fun that way!

Overall I was a bit dissapointed with this World Cup, at times it looked more like a cross between the World Diving Championships and a meeting of the International Overacting Society. A great message to send the young players out there: Cheat and you'll win. :naughty

I sat in a plane back to Berlin during the game and was close to the stadion short before landing as the pilot said :
"Italy has won the worldcup" and the fireworks began.
I tell you: really an incredible view!!!
The city is still in party...

My view is that France played better over the 120 minutes but penalties are always more luck than skill.

Overall I agree with Shadowkiller on the World Cup - far too much acting and diving for my liking. I'm a rugby fan generally and it always makes my cringe to see the play-acting by Footballers. If a rugby player goes down, generally they only stay down if they are really injured.
