hey folks

im realitively new to the sport of freediving (been diving for 18mths) and the last 6 months i have been diving on just frc. i would like to improve but im not sure what training would be benficial for open water freediving?
how often to train and for how long?
and is there any pool training that i can do?

any advice would be greatly appreciated because there is not alot of divers around locally.

cheers

That statement and training are not a good combination in the same post. It's said in every reply, but it's important. ALWAYS have a buddy that is watching you directly and knows what you are going to do and knows how to pull you yo the surface if something goes wrong.

ildiver,

i see where your coming from having a buddy is a must when it comes to any wet training. When im down the pool i have someone watching and same goes for open water...

just to clarify with my previous quote i ment there are not alot of experienced divers around that have knowledge to pass on..

I can't give any advice on the FRC as I'm not an expert by any means on FRC. The little bit I've done though, it's much like a regular full lung dive, but you have to really be aware of what your body is telling you. There was a thread by cdavis, not sure how much info is actually in the thread though.

The best thing is to take a course, with your dive buddies if possible, on freediving. Once you understand the physiology, you should see how things apply to FRC. I Think BennyB was moving Aus, but I don't know where. You might look him up to see what he will do for classes. (it may be a bit before he is available though http://forums.deeperblue.com/beach-bar/79491-farewell-england.html#post727743)

How are ya mate, i live in Caairns but used to live in WA down in Rockingham, your right there arent alot of experiencd divers but there are a couple, a friend of mine Erez teaches FDI (freediving international courses and is based on the gold coast) hes over seas until the end of september but travels to do classes, check out his webpage www.qldfreediving.com and send him a msg.

he dives exclusively on FRC and i've seen him regularly dive to over 45m so has plenty of experience, his courses are also very good and give lots of info.

Hope that helps

There are several excellent threads here on DB, containing more info about FRC than any other source available anywhere on the web or in books. Search for the term FRC in the search function above in the forum menu, or look up posts of FRC pioneers like Sebastian Murat, Eric Fattah, Laminar, or others. Also using the tagged search will show some interesting hits, less crowded with false hits than the standard search results: DeeperBlue Forums - Threads Tagged with frc

You the man TRUX! agreed completely if you want some info to read this is the place to be. but if you want some in water training hit up Erez he should be ale to help.
