Hello there from merry old england! Does anyone out there know of free diving clubs in the U.K? I've been trying to find links on the internet but no luck. Maybe someone out there knows of people who free dive in the u.k and can help me out. I'm new to this sport but really want to give it a go...maybe people don't bother in england as it does get rather cold in the winter!!!
Cheers me dears!!

Try this site

This is a great site made for freedivers.
Also if you do find the waters of enlgand too cold, there are course on the site, HMS dolphin that is a 30m imursion tank at a nice warm temp, for great diving all day, though it is only availabe at the weekend, during the winter.

www.freediver.co.uk

enjoy!!!:)

Are you solely interested in freediving or does your interest extend to spearfishing aswell?? I know there are several clubs in the South of England who compete throughout the summer. I myself am a member of the Jersey club and know there is a certain degree of overlap between the two disciplines with freedivers coming over and competing in our annual open competition. There are also classes held occassionally by the british team, although I have not yet attended one. The site already mentioned is your best bet for info. and there is also a free magazine called freediver which i think you can pick up at most good dive stores.

Hope this helps and may see you next summer.

Simon

Simon is right, there are a few clubs along the south coast.

Freediver UK is at http://www.freediver.co.uk and Howard Jones (the editor) runs courses to SETT (HMS Dolphin) the 30m submarine escape tank on a regular basis.

The site above is run by the guys who do the magazine Freediver and you can order the magazines online (single issue or subscription) as well as kit.

One of their crew, Crispin, hangs around these forums and will be able to tell you more.

freediving in england

Thanks for the advice guys.
I have made a few contacts in England and tend to pursue this when I get a chance. I didn't realize that spear fishing was an english waters pursuit. The things you learn eh! Anyway thanks and I'll keep you posted on my progress.
