Free-diving outside Oz, but close to Oz?

Hi, due to Visa reasons I have to take a short vacation. So, I need to go outside Oz, and want to find some good free diving. Any tips? Countries, cities, places, companys, clubs, any info is appreciated.
It can not be on the other side of the world, since I will only be able to go away for three days tops. Have never tried spearfishing but could do that too.

I hear Poor Knights, north of Auckland in NZ is one of the best dive spots around. You might want to have a look there. Cheap flights and not far away either. There is a comp there this weekend I believe.
