Free diving watch

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Suunto also makes the Masquito, and the Stinger that are freediving computers. The Suunto D9 also has a freediving mode also. Those are all watch and computer combos. Then there is the F1 by Liquivision that is a acomputer only (but oh what a computer it sounds like).

Hi,

There is a very cheap option if you want just about a 100 USD. The CASIO Marine Gear MRS-301 is good enough.

Bye.....

Suuntos are all great - D3 if you are only freediving, Stinger or Mosquito or (if you are extremely wealthy) D9 if you scuba too...

Mares Nemo also does both and is pretty smart

Many watch for freediving
but may you notice the sample rate(the interval of depth data)
the D3 have 1second sample rate and the F1 is higher.
I think the Masquito and stinger is bad because the lower sample rate.

Do anyone know the other diving watch with 1s sample rate? Please tell me Thx

A lot of people here have had bad experiences with the D3. I bought mine last year and it has performed faultlessly. As Sam said, Mosquito/Stinger/D9 all have a decompression computer. If you dive with tables, the gauge mode of the D3 is fine.

Stinger and Mosquito sample rate is 2s - not that different! you would have to be pretty obsessive for that to be a problem!

I'm with Sam, 2s is just as good, unless you need to analize no-fins techinque to very spesific details.

Without the interface I think 2s rate has an advantage, much easier to look at/write down.

From my own experience the stinger is in a different league in reliability but I'll still say buy a second hand Tag :martialor a new one ;)
HEHEHEHE!!!!

What do you mean by "different league in reliability"? Not very reliable? Reliable? Have you seen any troubles with the Stinger? Just curious.

I know of only one person (Jon on the forum) who ever had a problem with the stinger. It was the most reliable computer I ever had until it was stolen.

My stinger was bomb proof no trouble at all, expensive though, had two D3's both crap as far as I am concerned, though to be fair the first was under warranty and suunto were first class at replacing it, the second one was OK untill the batteries were changed (by Suunto) then, well easiest to say I binned it :(
Erics F1 might be worth a look at, similar price to the stinger

I have the Mares Memo, which is suppose to have a 4 second sampling rate, but from reading their site several times, it was still unclear.

I have made turns at measured lines on a rope as fast as I can with the watch in the feet mode. I’ve even grabbed the robe before the mark so I could swing my watch hand down to the mark so my watch was at the depth a minimum of time. The depth is always right on.

What ever its sampling rate is, the Memo is good enough for me. I’m happy with it. I have notice though that the difference between the salt and fresh water mode is large. With all the different mineral make up in water, it doesn’t seem plausible that only two modes could accurately do all bodies of water?

had D3 for more than a year and did not had any major problem. Changed battery myself couple months ago for 3 dollars and did not have any problem since....If its matters as some says mine is black back supposed to be second generation??? I asked about this suunto but they did not confirm that info :hmm Only had one small problem in winter, may be it was too cold for D3 (13 degree centigrate) or may be it was battery was low..It measured the depth 3-4 meters less.Well i will see if this happen this winter too.

I have been enjoying my $140 Casio Sea Pathfinder (SPF70-1V), I don't know how accurate it is but it seems just fine. I have seen other posts saying not to buy a watch that only takes readings to 30 meters but I'm not planning on going that far down so I went with it.
I must admit that I owned a Sunnto Observer and was really not happy with it, so I would never own another product of theirs. My biggest problem was the volume of the alarm, way to low and when I went into the manual all they say is "volume cannot be adjusted". I find this funny that they have had people complain about this problem and their solution is to put this in the manual instead of trying fix it. I also had a problem with my dates suddenly changing, all this from a watch that costs somewhere around $275.
