Freediver Shot!

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
That's horrible!

But I do know there have been close calls even in Finland, I know at least of one case where a spearfisher was identified to be a human only after being watched through a rifle scope. So yeah, use buoy, flag...Some kind of marker!

Not that I approve shooting seals much more than shooting freedivers, but a guy in a black suit, swimming on the surface...May be hard to tell them apart.

By the way, what is "nutria"?

Nutria are a rodent that was imported from South America. They are bigger than a muskrat but smaller than a beaver. They look similar to the muskrat.

Another term for nutria in English is "coypu"

So any of you ever seen a 'nutrai' as big as a man??? Thats one big ass rodent my freinds, or arent the cops who arrested the shooter as sceptical about the explanation as I am :naughty

Maybe it depends on what you have been smoking... rofl

Must be very good weed to do that to a man, come to think of it maybe he was on acid and shot at the giant rodent coming to fetch him rofl

Or he has a fear of mermen that the drugs brought out. Or he was tripping watching Moby Dick and thought he was Captain Ahab.

We could use a harpooner smilie!

These stories are so common. Here in Czech every year some hunters shot their partners. They are really stupid - sometimes they shoot in the dense bushes when they just hear something without actually seeing it. :(

Makes me remember a well mediated case with another idiot in the USA shooting an attorney last year. I am not sure if he mistook him for a rodent or for his wife, but apparently it was not considered any big problem. Fortunately the victim apologized for being in harms way, and causing troubles, and so everything finished with a happy end - although being apparently under influence too, and evading medical control, the guy did not finish behind bars, is still the Vice President of the USA, and did not even have his license removed. Though I believe to have heard the license was invalid in the time of the accident, so there was probably nothing to remove anyway.

a nutria (and seals for that matter) head, sticks just above the waterline, and looks JUST LIKE a black hooded diver's head, when semi submerged.

not removing blame from the hunter, as a serious hunter myself, there is no excuse for not identifying your target

on the other hand, there is no way in hell I'd be wearing a black suit if I knew there was a current hunting season in the are on black waterborn critters.

Interesting one, sympathy goes to the guy who got shot. But like Amphibious sayd, freediving in a river, during hunting season wearing black, and you know there are a bunch of trigger happy hunters around .... Thats not something you expect from a seasoned proffesional. I also dont want to take blame away from the hunter, but if i was hunting on a river the last thing I would expect to see is a freediver. Maybe freediving in rivers is commond place in other countries but i cant recall ever seeing a freediver in a river down here in South Africa.
