I see that there have been a couple people doubting whether Freedivers guns can shoot big fish - I had a good chat to Slingshaft to which he suggested I post some picks - so here are my best fish shot on my Freedivers gun. Enjoy

I hope this is helpful - you are welcome to have a brows on my spearfishing shop and direct any questions you might have - the site is Buy Spearfishing Equipment - Home it is still under a bit of construction things should be ready in the next week or so but if you still want to buy stuff just email me a order to shaun@fishingcorner.co.za and i will send you a proper quote inclusive of shipping. Will be interesting to hear some questions regarding the guns though

shaun.reid i have held one of the freedivers guns here in the UK.It belonged to a South African guy called Rowan and i was very impressed with it.The built in rail was great and the gun held up very well in the rough and tumble of UK conditions.

Your catches of fish are very impressive. And so are freedivers guns.

Hi Glowworm I am good friends with Rowan!! What a small world!! we dive together on a regular basis at leas once a week - i dived with him last thursday!! poor conditiond and big swell!

I have a 140cm Freedivers gun in Florida. Picked it up in Cape Town in May. Installed Rob Allen composite reel on it. It shoots quietly and accurately. Using 7mm 190cm shaft and 2x16mm bands. I like the fact it came with dogbones for easy wishbone replacement.

I did NOT like flimsy plastic line release and no option to upgrade (RA SS line release will not fit, and FD doesnt offer it).

Great gun, however I will be trying out Pelaj railguns and if they check out as advertised I will switch to them exclusively.

Thanks for posting the pics, great catches!

i will see what i can do to get an upgrade for the line release - The thing is it has never been a problem - but if that is what guys want -i will get a option to change it

Brett

shaun is this your personal brag album? Did the freedivers guns really help you shoot all those fish or would any gun have worked?

Ahoy Shaun!
I've got one of your guns and I'm loving it.
Just one question? I've lost two nice Crackers lately and for some reason I suspect that the rubbers might have aged a bit and are not as strong as they use to be. The gun is a 1.1m with 20mm rubbers and is about 1.5 year old. I've never changed the rubbers cause they still look OK to me. Do you think i should maybe shorten them or just replace them? Another factor could be that I simply misjudged the distance as I havent dived in a while (bit rusty) plus shot the one cracker in the head, which is never a good idea. However, a mate of mine shot one in the head with one of your guns and the spear went straight through. Maybe, it's just a distance issue?
Any input will be much appreciated
Thanks!

I always shorten my rubbers after time that could definatly be a reason you lost the fish - make sure your spear is sharp as well as the scales on cracker are tough and if the spear is blunt penetration can be a problem - The 16kg dagga Salmon you see in the photos was shot with a 900mm Gun with 20mm rubbers powered up - my spear had no problem going all the way through - the rubbers must be hard to load - Fish feeda I think it is a bit of a brag page - just showing that the freedivers guns can handle big fish - as there were some questions about this

Because they offer good quality and good value....and that's in the context of not knocking another manufacturer, I'd have any one in the right specs for use in the right environment.
cheers

agreed - i have a big respect for other brands as i know everyone has worked hard to get to where they are - i have known shane for 6 years and have developed a great realationship with him and the brand I am a freedivers man because firstly a great product but also a great friendship - shane is one of those guys who will go out of his way to help anyone - So i think in a nut shell that is why - I do have stanless steel line release but to be honest i would not go that way as over time it becomes sticky.

Great Pics Shaun, they answered my questions regarding the versatility of the Bluewater Series. Everyone says that the Freedivers line of spearguns shoot accurately, and are exceptionally quiet! I imagine this is due in part to the patented noise suppressing Evolution Rail. I can see that fish feeda is flailing the air with venomous words, this is unexpected from a seasoned spearo from just 'down the road'. I can see the inevitable comparison to the Rob Allen line of spearguns, However, this is not a bad thing. By the way, I have 'four' 1.4 meter Bluewater guns enroute to me!:t

Freedivers took a proven concept (Picasso was first, I think) and cloned it. Just like many other manufacturers did - Picasso/Simotal handle on a rail barrel (see BlackDog Spearguns in Australia, Orca Spearguns). They did invent the way for rail to slide into the barrel, and made barrel stronger with some ridges inside. Gun is very quiet. Trigger is quiet too, but trigger travel is kinda long, and that sometimes affects my shots as gun moves while I keep squeezing the trigger until spear releases.

I dont think there is any negative vibes in this thread, just constructive user info and questions.
