Hi to all freediver,

I have just completed the AIDA two star with Richard here from the forum, which was an amazing experience in Thailand.

Now being back to ZA i am looking to find some training partner in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Preferably in Johannesburg as i spend 3 weeks of the month there.

I would be happy for some guidance, support and contacts, so that i can improve my freediving skills to move on to the next level.

Some contacts in Cape Town would be great as well when it comes to crayfish diving. That must be lots of fun and the reward (Crayfish on the plate ) is interesting as well.

Looking forward to some posts.

When will you be in Cape Town?

Sometimes I think that freedivers will be a bit dissapointed by crayfishing, because it's quite different to freediving. 1) You often don't dive very deep. The biggest crays i have ever caught, were caught in waist deep water. 2) The water very often quite murky or rough, 4 out of every 5 dives are in pea soup 3) It 's not really diving in wide open water, but rather negotiating yourself through thick kelp and rocky gulleys. (i.e. long fins don't work). So in a sense it lacks the elegance and freedom that freediving has. But that being said it has it's own type of enjoyment. I thorougly enjoy it.

I should ask x-yeti to comment on his experiences, cos he is a freediver turned kreefdiver and spearo.

hey, my husband is planning on starting a freediving club in cape town
contact him, he's x-yeti in this forum.
and i'll be in cape town and johannesburg running courses and training over the summer.

Ah, we are such a friendly bunch, us freedivers!
As Linda said, her husband- John, is a super keen freediver in Cape Town, and there is talk of a club. And if Linda invades joburg, dear lord, there will be lots of divers there too

I also teach courses in Cape Town and have had a lot of students who are keen to do more regular training together, so stay in touch!

So you will never lack friends in the mother city!

Please note, I post this question with the up most sincerity. I was not on deeperblue or in the water with John for two or three months and I seemed to have missed a whole episode of my friend's life. John is married! Is this for real or are you guys just joking around?

ha ha... very valid question, lenny.
well, i will reply, as linda and john will have a whole other story...
john met linda in dahab, she is rad- italian freediver, a good friend of mine (this is not part of the story) at the end of his stay in dahab, there was a party... and a beautiful ceremony, with vows and all... not sure if any papers were signed..???
Linda?
John?

It was actually a marriage of convenience. Linda desperately wanted a South African passport, so that she could travel the world. That dodgy EU passport of hers was causing her a lot of trouble. I believe her first trip will be to Zimbabwe.

Alex, I'm sorting out a club in Cape Town. I'll let you know more soon...
