I am going on my second freediving trip this winter. At that point, I hope to have FII certification through my local dive shop.

My first trip was... shall we say, a learning experience. I found myself out of the water for more than half of the time, because I was simply too cold. We're talking blue lips here. People told me I did not need a wetsuit in the tropics, but they forgot that I'm 6' tall and 115 lbs.

This time, I want to do it right.

I got a wetsuit, a weight belt, and a membership with a nearby rectangular pool that was the closest substitute I could find to a lap pool in which to train.

The last two things on my list are getting better at equalizing, which I just need to practice (right? If there is any secret to this, I would also like to know) and getting a suitable camera.

I'm leaning towards a GoPro Hero 3 White on a GoPole Evo or Reach, but I want to know what other freedivers' camera setups are before I make the jump.

I want a camera too. The GoPro Hero range do appear to have quality control issues, but am leaning towards the silver. It's a lot of money and I might be better off with something geared towards stills rather than video.

there is no reason to get a gopro white. if getting gopro, get black or just go with a cheaper chinese waterproof camera. Even the gopro1 is better than the white, so you might find one second hand for cheap. I have the gopro 1 and a redleaf RD32/II. the RD32/II is better, and only cost me 100 euro.
for mounting, why not DIY something. a walking pole does a good job. I built something from the plumbers supplies that looks like a massive tonfa, and I built my own Gopro mounts for it and all. for travelling I will just use a hillwalking pole.
for DIY gopro projects sheck the gopro forum here: GoPro User Forum ? Index page
