Hi,

I am a scuba diver based in north east England and am really keen to lean more about freediving. The best place to start I thought would be by enrolling on a beginners course (most likely AIDA 1&2*) The difficulty I am having is finding a local instructor.

Through Internet research I can't seem to find a course closer than Manchester or Glasgow. Any help would be appreciated in finding a course/instructor closer to home in Newcastle.

Thanks,

J

If you're on Facebook it might be worth joining the freedive Newcastle group - you'll get info about training etc. locally there.

Cheers

Grant

Go to Manchester, meet Steve Millard and you won't regret it!

You'll find that freediving and locality don't really mix... Instead, the world will become more local to you :))

That's not the first recommendation I've had for Steve Milliard, so I think it makes sense to get in touch!

I have joined the Freedive Newcastle group on FB but waiting to hear back on where pool sessions etc are held and when.

I really don't mind travelling to do a course but want to know that there will be others locally to help me learn the art!

As a scuba diver, I'm used to travelling around to dive the best sites, but I love knowing that I can meet with my BSAC buddies every Monday at the pool and pub.

Hopefully there are others in and around Newcastle so that you can meet frequently. I'm in Leeds and I know one other person in the city who does freediving so I have to travel, when I can, to Manchester to even think about training with a buddy :(

Ste's your man!

I'll chip in with another recommendation for Steve.
Head over to Manchester and do the bulk of a course over a weekend - then a few trips for deeper dives at various sites.

Dan

Thanks for all of the recommendations.

Looks like I am going to have to travel to do this!

Incidentally however, I have emails both Steve and the admin of the Freedive Newcastle group around 2 weeks ago and not had a reply from either!

Ste usually emails back within a day or two but has been organising both the UK Depth Competition which just finished yesterday and also worlds at the end of this year.

Don't worry he'll get back to you :)

Travelling is required but people go out of their way for you and you can share lifts and then meet even more people!

Do it and we'll see you out there Orphus!:friday

So I got it ouch with Steve and booked onto a course for later this month.

Thanks for the recommendations guys!
