Freediving fins for women?

I was looking for information on longblade fins for women, my husband has several pairs gara 2000 & 3000, biller, and a few others. He says the gara 2000 are HIS favorite, but he wears a size 14 shoe, so I haven't been able to try them out. I have fairly narrow feet, but they are big nonetheless I wear a size 10. Do any of you men have experience in that department,as far as fins for your wives or girlfriends?

I've found the spoarasub foot pockets to be a little bit narrower than my OMER's. With a woman's 10 you should be able to find a foot pocket without much trouble. The main thing to look at is stiffness. You don't want to go with anything too stiff if you plan on staying in the water for a while.

My wife has a much smaller foot (sz6) and she can squeeze into my fins with her 6mm scuba booties on. Padding up the footpockets with a wetsuit sock is always a good trick if it doesn't fit quite right.

Try the Cressi's in you size and you should fit into them without much trouble. My Picasso footpockets also seem to be narrower than my Esclapez. The advantage to Sporasub fins over the others mentioned is that you can change out the blades at a later date if you want something fancier.

I can vouch for the sporasubs, although I have typically wide feet for a female (in relation to the length of my foot), I really like the sporasub footpocket. My fins are sporasub footpockets with Waterway #2 blades. Definitly the trick is to find the perfect fit, as I have tried squeezing my foot into something small and had big problems (lack of circulation) as well as padding on the socks and trying to wear something bigger (too much slide)... with large feet though, you might even find something decent on ebay (look for sporasubs or cressi, as they are reputedly good for narrow feet as well).
 
I have a similar question concerning the sporasub fins but do anyone of you have experienceon european sizes? The size chart is like; 38-40 and 40-42i guess you can apply my question to other sizes to.

Would a size 40 woman with narrow feet chose 38-40 or 40-42? Orndinary shoe size is 40 where 41 is chosen to 39, but how will a fin size 40-42 fit? The feet are narrow as i said and the fin is to be worn with a 3-5mm sock.

You're lucky, women with tiny feet have a hard time finding fins. I'm a former Cressi dealer. You can probably fit into the Cressi Gara size 8-9. The width of your foot is the most important factor because they are open toe fins. My wife wears an 8.5 shoe, fairly wide and wears the 8-9 with a 2mm sock. She presently has a pair of 8-9 Billers. Cressi has a softer foot pocket which sometimes helps the fit. The next size up in Cressi is 10-11, and of course they are mens sizes, it fits me bare foot and I wear a wide 11, so I prefer the 12-13 with socks.

You're south of Tampa Bay, right? Bill Jacksons in Pinellas Park has them to try on, and also has a big pool available. And of course FL Freediver, in West Palm, sells them too.

I think you really ought to start out by trying the 2000HF and 3000.

The cressi pockets will probably be most comfortable for you, but the 2000hf is a stiff fin. Softer will almost certainly be better for you for free diving. I think the 3000 series is softer, no direct experiance. Something like a waterway 1 or 2 blade in spora pockets worn with a neopreme sock might be the best combo.

There aren't a whole lot of freedivers in Bradenton. Are you any relation to Stoneshoot?

I was thinking the same thing about the 3000s at first for her, but she is 6'0" tall! She might be OK with the 2000HF since she is no petite little lady bug. That is why I suggest trying each set of fins out first.

Trivial info: Most people don't know this, but the 3000 foot pocket has a slight stiffness improvement over the 2000. Cressi fixed what many divers felt was a flimsy heel section.

Yes, Stoneshot is my man... , are you the one he talked to earlier cdavis? about doing some beach diving?

Just feeling the hubby's 2000 & 3000's, I can't really tell which is stiffer? He says the Billers are his stiffest, I definately don't want those, if he says they are stiff.

He doesn't have Sporasubs, but says that he has heard good things about them for the money.

Anyway, thank you all for the advice!

I'm not a man, but I do have a bit of a word about fins . Mine are Sporasub H Dessaults and I love them. My shoe size is between 8 and 10 and they fit very well - I believe that translates to a women's 38-40 in European sizes. I couldn't be more pleased with them - reasonable price, plenty of room for a neoprene sock, great power. My two cents.

Possibly you may have seen me at the Spearboard Open, I recognized you from Titanium's / Stone Shot's avatar.

He's right, Biller's Black fins are slightly stiffer than Cressi 2000s. (Biller used to sell Sporasub fins.) The Cressi 3000 HFs are incorrectly described as being softer to kick than the 2000 HFs. They have a center rib that makes them actually tougher on the leg than 2000s. I had a pair for 6 months and went back to 2000 HFs. (BTW, they are not shown in the 2006 catalog.) I just saw the new 3000 LDs and they look to be what they thought the 3000 HFs would be, more flexible, with a tapered blade. This is the only fin that i have not kicked, but I can tell by flexing them they will be good.

Anyway after all that... many women like the 2000 HF fins. They are not overly stiff, as they flex pretty evenly from tip to foot pocket.

It's obviously best to kick any fins you are considering in the water.
