I've been snorkeling since childhood and have my scuba certification, but would like to get into freediving. Anybody in the Twin Cities area (SE St. Paul suburbs especially) looking for a dive buddy?

Lunatim,

There are a few people around up here, I'm in Madison and Fred is over in North Dakota, but not too many that I'm aware of right where you live.

There's at least one guy in La Crosse, a little bit closer to you, and another (Gene) is closer to Hudson, I think.

We gather together every July for freedive-a-palooza, just do a search for it on here and you'll find links to other freedivers who where there.

I know that there is a very active underwater Hockey club up there that might net you a few dive buddies.

hope thathelps,

Jon

Hey, Jon, thanks for the info!

I don't have a car at present, so it might be hard to arrange diving with people outside the Twin Cities; however, the Freedive-a-Palooza sounds like a good idea to file away in my mental Rolodex.

You're right about the local u/w hockey team--the Minnesota Loons who meet at a pool at the University of St. Thomas on Wednesdays and another local pool on Mondays, I think. I've got pictures of the Nationals tournament at the University of Minnesota in July on my website at http://www.lunatim.com/pictures/picture2/picture2.shtml --just scroll down to the right gallery. It's a fun sport, but there's much physical contact--and a fin to the groin doesn't tickle

I used to play semi-regularly, but haven't since I moved out of downtown Saint Paul recently. I know of a couple of players who tried freediving, but I'm not certain they're still interested any more.

BTW, has anybody at DeeperBlue considered having a new section devoted to Underwater Hockey or Rugby?
