I am currently in Kuala Lumpur and planning a ~2 week freediving trip in December. I know the timing is not ideal regarding the monsoon, rainy season here, but that's the time I have. I commonly do recreational dives at 20 - 30 meters in the frigid water in Vancouver and would like to keep at that depth, but my partner goes dives less deep, so any spots we go to would have to be quite steep to satisfy both of us.
From what I've read, Indonesia (Bali, Gili islands, Komodo, Bunaken and so on) are going to be rainy and stormy. In Malaysia the only place on the list is Sipadan, which is a great spot to go scuba-diving from what I've read, but I don't know how good it is for freediving. Any help there?
It seems like the best way to avoid the rain and (lack of) vis that comes with it would be to go to the Philippines. In the Philippines there are tons of diving spots, like Palawan and Boracay, Cebu, and so on.
Has anybody been freediving there? Any help would be much appreciated.
