Tioman Island is absolutely stunning too. I've been twice to the ABC diving resort and would go anytime again.

. Sipadan is definitely on the list, but I will only be freediving. It still seems to be a great island even if you “just” go freediving, or are there other island around more suitable? Is it hard to get to Layang Layang? Thanx!

Sweden. Ah. Floorball world champions. That's pretty much I know of the country, other than Ikea and some other brands.
I reckon Layang Layang would be pretty accessible. So would Sipadan.
Sipadan's diving is an all year round affair, with the good being April to March, best is July to August, which is when you are going. I advise you to book early, as the slots might sell out.
Layang Layang's season is around March to August, best being around April to May I'd say. As said, you should book early too.
Tioman is a popular weekend getaway for us Singaporeans, the proximity being the major factor. However, I'd say the diving there is average at best. Vis is not so good, with the island being more and more commercialised.
I'm sure that which ever destination you choose, you can arrange with the operators a different rate as opposed to that presented to scuba divers.
