Are there any fresh water freediving spots in California? I'm looking for a place with good visibility. And is lake tahoe a good place to go freediving? Or is it too deep?

Tahoe has great visibility. The maximum depth is 1645 feet, but you can always dive closer to shore.

I'm been swimming there, but never diving. But I guess it depends on what interests you. I've always found fresh water to be so sterile compared to the ocean. The difference in life is dramatic.

I don't know about winter, but I'm sure a 5mm suit would be fine in the summer. I've been in the water quite a while in nothing but a swimsuit.

i like the southern nevada side its got tons of huge boulders and stuff its pretty not much life tho altitude can get ya too there are tons of clear water lakes up there but all real high altitude

Agree with MHF!

Water is beautiful in Tahoe, but I would only dive carefully with a buddy. I have no idea how you would estimate your safe breathhold limits at such a high altitude, all I know is, it feels very different for a lowlander (at the time I lived at sea level in the Bay Area).
