Just moved to Utah- still not quite sure why. Missing spear fishing in the pacific and so Im posting here to help with the home sickness.

Starting to do some freshwater spear fishing- any recommendations on guns. 30-40 feet max depth. Striped bass and such 5-20 lbs.

Any of you spear fish in Lake powell or lake mead?

Hi DrDabs. Welcome, better late than never! It looks like most folk that joined in May last year were largely ignored, probably because it was when the spear fishing season started in earnest.

We have quite a few freshwater spearing members. There seem to be significant groups/clusters in Wisconsin, Canada, and eastern europe. Length of speargun will depend primarily on visibility conditions where you fish - as you probably already know. British sea conditions vary considerably but are generally fairly murky. We use 75-90cm spearguns most of the time, although much smaller and longer guns are sometimes used by a few. I would think 70-90cm eurogun barrel tube length would most like be what you would want. Something like a 70cm Rob Allen railgun perhaps? I have a couple of 90cm guns but find my Omer XXV 75cm far more agile & better suited to the poor vis. conditions and modest fish (<<20lb) I usually encounter. [I think 80cm/82cm is probably the ideal size/best compromise for general UK conditions.]

Welcome from Texas! I'd go with no more than 90cm gun in fresh water.
