its that time again, last night i was in the water from 7:30 pm till 2 am, didnt even care when my torch batterys died ! every full moon dip in the sea ive done, it allways amazes me how clear the water is, and how much life is around, swam through a school of some sort of jellyfish that hurt pretty bad tho, that kinda sucked :duh guess i should be pointing the light where im going sometimes instead of trying to poke sleeping parrotfish rofl

end tally of the hunt? 2 spiney lobster (2 and a half lbs, and 3 lbs) 1 slipper lobster that i didnt weigh, but was about 4 inches wide in the tail (does anyone have any tips for finding these?) and 6 squid in the 10 inch range..no fish, didnt see anything that looked challenging that i could actually get close to. saw a lot of parrotfish, all sleeping in cracks, i picked one up and rolled him around before he seemed to realise what was happening, that was worth a good laugh, a few jacks that kept their distance, even tho i *think* i got close to one after my light stopped working, and a big permit, musta been 40 lbs, he decided that something pointing a light at him couldnt be very friendly, so he headed off for the safe haven of deeper water (at night i generally stay in about 20 feet of water)

anyone else in here like getting in the sea at full moon?

Been once - like you say you dont really need a torch - well at least to see the surface and rocks and the land - helps below the surface though ... very peaceful and not as freaky as I thought it would be (it was my first night snorkel/dive)... might go again soon...

There's a great little program (13MB) caled Virtual Moon Atlas. It's freeware and you can see exactly the phase and zoom in and out graphically to see different features from the library it carries. You can also use the program to find out exactly when it will be full in future dates.
