Gara 3000 question

I've been searching around and asked on another thread with no luck so far. Please exuse my impatience but I'm leaving late Tuesday and would like to get this sorted out before then. I bought a gray pair of Gara 3000's with 1mil socks. After trying on a couple of pairs they fit perfectly without the sock and just slightly uncomfortable with the sock. Haven't gotten them wet yet but will tommorrow.

I have two concerns. One is that I wanted the HF version but think I may have gotten the LD version mistakenly. I don't plan on doing much surface swimming. How do I tell the difference? The other is that I'll be using them in the springs which are pretty cold by my standards. 72. After reading up I see that maybe I should have gotten the 3mil socks instead of the 1mil and size the fin accordingly? Opinions and advice? I'd rather fix this now personally instead of later over the net.:head
 
OK, I'll try to help out.

If you are of a relatively normal size, not a super strong and experienced freediver, then the gara 3000 LD are indeed the ones you want. I am 5'11" and 175lbs, and I prefer a somewhat stiff fin, and my gara 3000 LD's are great!

The cressi footpockets are very comfortable if you have a normal size or narrow size foot, but they run a bit big. I wear a size 10 to 10.5 shoe but all my cressi fins (5 pair) are size 8-9.

A one mil sock is all you need for the spring water and I personally think that a 3 mil in a cressi is to cramped.

The sock and fin combo will become more comfortable once you get wet and situated. For the warm ocean water, my advice is don't bother with the sock.

HF has been discountinued. Don't bother with it.

Remember, this is based on the presumption that you are an average sized, average strength, and average experienced freediver.

Taking all the things you said into consideration I feel much more comfortable with my decision so far. I'm 5'8 132' but don't feel below average. I also wear 8-1/2" but 7-8 fin size. Assuming I did end up with the LD version that's fine. They seem to be pretty popular with most. I was more concerned about having the right sock/fin combo for where I'll be diving mostly. Now if this mask (Superocchio) seals tommorrow I'll be all set. This helps me out. Thanks.

Well i just came from night shift...very sleepy..i dont know if this will help u..but using a pair of Fin Keepers will make your life like heaven.i have a pair of Cressi HF2000...first i had blisters on my left foot, and for a while i thought that i did a mistake buying it..i put on thick socks...but still... untill i got the fin keepers...the fin is very tight on my foot, u can kick like a horse and u will feel the groove.

There is no slack in my fit at all but have a pair of keepers off my drysuit if need be.

Don´t bother to much about the soxs. My fins fit ok without sox and as you said, a little tight with 1.5 mm soxs. Remember, when you get wet the fins and every thing get loose, so, you won´t feel the sox. The other thing is a that as more you use them their foot pockets will get more soft. Perhaps in the beginning while you´re getting used to them it will be a little inconfortable, but is just a matter of time.


I don´t think is good idea to use 3mm soxs if the fins fit you ok without them. In this situation you should choose between a bigger foot pocket or a maximun 2mm soxs. After 2mm the felling become painful an the water neither the use will make them feel better.
