LOL Thanks guys (and you're absolutely right about that! my mom *was* a lifeguard at the time hehe) I had a great time: the dive shop had us do an Amazing Race and we won first, got a huge Akona roller/backpack.. and my sweetie got me new bifins and a bottle of Absinthe. Life is good! :friday

Could I talk you and your significant other into bringing that bottle down to Vegas this October? I'm booked as part of the entertainment at the Hilton and would love to make a bottle of absinthe dissappear. In that respect, I'm going to need a volunteer from the audience to position my head in the toilet if the trick works.

Dude, you would need a volunteer to place your cold dead body in a BOX if you pulled that trick. The stuff is about 70% alcohol and has a dash of Wormwood (Opiate derivitive) in it for good measure. I brought a bottle back from Prague and it is still sitting on my shelf. There have been a few nips out of it but the whole bottle, NO THANK YOU!

The bit about thujone: actually, very little Thujone survives the distillation process, well within the 10mg/l norm allowed by EU regulations. Be more concerned about the high level of alcohol if you don't dilute it properly!

get yourself a nice glass, absinthe spoon, decanter full of ice water, sugar cubes and a little ambient tunez (like mandalay, on). throuroughly read http://www.feeverte.net/ all the fAQ's (cuz i can't go into major detail here)...
La Fee Verte (the proper way): *don't* light your sugar OR your absinthe on fire before you drink it, that's an old czech "tradition". DO put an ounce of absinthe in your glass, place the sugar on the spoon, drizzle the cold water over it until you see the "louche'' (generally 4 parts water to one part absinthe) and enjoy your "green hour". And let me know if any of you did this!
