Hey Guys, I have an important question . I've been Spearfishing for about 2 years now and well, its no longer a hobby it is my my passion now but , since Jan I've been getting bad allergies when I hit the water almost immediately it kicks in and well, I don't have to tell you the rest . It's horriiiiiible . I've seen a few drs but you know drs They all have diff opinions . but yeah, gear on , ready to hit the water, after 4-5 dives boooms there it is! my day is ruined after that ! Has that happened to any of you out there? What Did you do? Any medicine , tricks or something ? Any ideas would be helpful . Thanks

What is it you are allergic to - this time of year, April, tree pollen is a common allergin? Do you suffer from asthma? I recently heard about asthma being classed as wet or dry. I think the essential difference is that wet can be triggered by cold - but perhaps one of the physicians/nurses/medics on the forum could explain that better?

Does your nose stream when you enter the water?

I would have a chat to your GP or, if you have one, your allergy/asthma specialist - it might save your life. Allergies can lead to asthma (or eczema), and asthma can kill if not managed properly (believe me, I haved to call ambulances on more than one occasion and drive to the nearest ER/A&E on other occasions, although not recently thankfully).

Hey Mr x, NO I'm not allergic to anything and I'm down in S America and No we get none of that here man... I even go to the beach on a normal day and I could spend all day there , get in the water and nothing....everything is normal ...It only happens when I go Spearfishing and start doing some dives...at some Point I even thought that maybe I'm allergic to the mask (Micromask) haha but I really Don't think so I've had for two years and I tried some others masks and its the same thing.!

Try a silicone mask/goggles versus a rubber/latex. Same with snorkel.

The Technisub Aqualung Micromask is silicone. And wetsuits are neoprene not rubber. What sort of snorkel are you using? Many but not all modern snorkels are silicone, I have at least one that is rubber - but most people would be unable to tell the difference but if you are allergic to Latex, you might be able to.

Could it be something in the water. Tiny jelly fish perhaps, the tentacles of small jelly fish are near invisible? Toxic plankton?

You still have not told us the symptoms. Whichs parts of your body (e.g. mouth/eyes/nose/face/arms/legs/hands) are effected and how (rash/inflamation/streaming)? Saltwater can make your eyes sore if you are not careful, rubbing them can make it worse.

many if not all allergies are caused by parasites (doesn't have to be a massive worm mind you , mould getting in after the use of antibiotics would suffice ) . Mainstream doctors are not taught about it and disregard the subject. back in 50s -60s it was a big thing but nowadays everyone concentrated on treating symptoms(thank u pharma industry). See someone "unorthodox" who specialise in those things for a change
