just tryed on my new omer suit.... it was kinda hard to get on. and i didn't even try to get it off with out help lol

i just used a bar of soap as lube. i think it might have lacked the staying power.

so what do you guys use for lube and how much of it do you use ??

has anyone died from trying to get out of a wet suit :blackeye

If it is an open cell wetsuit it may require lube. Use a hair conditioner that you like the smell of.

Mix 1 part conditioner to 4 parts water in a spray bottle.

The suit should slide on easier.

You said "tried on" so I'm assuming that you were not diving when you were using it. Whether open cell or standard the wetsuit will be more difficult to get on and off when it's dry. My 5mm sporasub scared the crap out of me the first 2 times I "tried it on" and wasn't able to get out of it without help. I thought that when I went diving I'd be stuck in it and panic. Turned out, once it was wet, it was much easier to slip out of. I also wear a rash guard under the wetsuit which I finds makes it easier to get on and off. Another good tip is to fold back the cuffs of the arms and legs so that the rubber section (which gives you the good seal) doesn't stick to your skin and make it difficult to get the suit on or off.

For an open cell you're going to need some type of lube. The hair conditioner is good advice, that's what most people I know use. As a side not, NEVER EVER put on or take off an open cell wetsuit while it's dry. Way too easy to rip it. Always wet it down before you put it on.

i was in the shower and was using soap as my lube.. ill try some hair stuff tomorrow

Instead of hair conditioner try some form of aqueous body moisturiser lotion or cream. Contains less nasties and is good for your skin. Everyone's a winnerrofl. There is lube, and there is lube. Dont skimp on the amount of lotion you mix with water to make up a solution. Too watery and a new suit will still need some pulling.

If lubed correctly an open cell suit should be easy to get on and off.

A small but a useful tip: always keep the hood on when removing the wetsuit. People tend to put it off first, and then they wonder when their head gets blocked.

The only bit i found hard was squeezing my head through the hole as I was putting it on - good job I've been practicing my breath holds - after about 30 seconds I was starting to get a little worried! :D

Yeah, getting one's head through the neck hole of a brand new open cell suit can be tight until they stretch a little. It was no laughing matter getting my girlfriend's on with all her hair. She had to use a swim cap before her new elios started to wear in. At least it stopped the tears :waterwork.

I brough one suit for me and one for my girlfriend - I made her lube her head before she put it on! roflroflroflrofl

Couldn't be dealing with any whining!!! :D

with a nice flexible freedive suit, technique and lube you should be able to put it on and take it off by yourself.

You probably don't have enough space to balance yourself properly in the shower.

To remove the top solo, keep hood on as trux says, unclip the beaver tail and pull up (peel up) as high as you can, bend over and flip the beaver tail over one shoulder. Grab the beaver tail and straighen your arms whilst squatting down and wiggling. Once off your torso use YOUR FISTS (not fingertips!) to punch the rest over your head.

Good luck.

I like to use light plastic bags to slide into suits but everyone laughs at you. Dry ones work fine with nylon lining but you need to lube them for open cell.

I find that lubing myself AND the suit beforehand makes things easier. Wet yourself and the suit down, apply lots of lube, and off you go!

Bonus: smelling like strawberries =0)

don't talk about the smell, i get very nauseous with the smell of all conditioners i have ever used, and can't find a non-fragrance one. My dive response starts just smelling the stuff..
