This ginseng supplement called ginsana said in a magazine add, and i quote, "the ginseng in Ginsana energizes you by helping your body use oxygen more efficiently."

now, using oxygen more efficiently is a main goal of the apneist. Does anyone know anything about this stuff? do you think it will help w/ freediving?

I havn't researched exactly what it does or how it works but i plan on doing so when i have time

I remember reading about a study at Wayne State that reported no positive effects of ginseng on aerobic performance. I think it was done in the mid 90s. Some studies from earlier in the decade had conflicting results but were apparently not quite as structured. Then again, ginseng also has thousands of years of Chinese tradition to purport its benefits.

If it is not very expensive, try it out. At the least perhaps it will have a nice placebo effect. :)

I used it extensively in 2002. To be honest it did seem to help a bit (did a huge dynamic pb while using it), BUT, after lots of research, I learned these things:
- Effects are cumulative, must be used for 8 weeks
- Simulates effects of cardio training; if lots of cardio training is done, it has no effect; its main effect is on the un-trained person

Wait, so I can take a pill and stop *CONSIDERING* moving my butt? That's great!
Ancient Chinese wisdom rocks! :king

On another tone, does it has a stimulative effect? how does it changes the pulse pattern, blood pressure, cerebral blood pressure and so on?
Ginseng is oftenly mentioned along with Ginko Biloba. Any infro about that?

Hi Michael,

As I get one ear tinnitus in a dive about a year ago, since last month the doctor is trying a Ginkgo treatment for it. The Ginkgo should improve the brain circulation, and I was also curious about the apnea influence by it.

I was not expecting any results at all, but for the tinnittus it is working. I dont see any colateral effects, not even in my dives... :hungover :

BUT as Iam not diving and training too often, maybe Iam not recording the data properly to see the results (if there is any...).
Paulo.
