THE JAPANESE GLAUCOS MANGA WHICH WAS PRODUCED DURING THE FREEDIVING EVENTS IN CYPRUS HAS NOW A WEBSITE IN ENGLISH.

http://www.tanaka-akio.com/glaucos/english/top.html

THE DIRECTOR KO TAKEMURA (FREEDIVER TEAM JAPAN) AND CERTAIN CHARACTERS ARE TAKEN FROM THE EVENTS. THE ARTIST USED PHOTOS FROM THE COMPETITIONS FOR DETAILS.

IF U HAVE BEEN THERE U MAY RECOGNISE SOME MOMENTS CAPTURED IN THE STORY. OF COURSE U WOULD HAVE TO GET THE MANGA (4 BOOKS) WHICH ARE IN JAPANESE LANGUAGE BUT THE PICTURES ALONE ARE COOL TO LOOK AT AND THE STORY IS UNFOLDED.

I could not find any way to order those books. I'd be very interested...Is this possible?

Probably the best exuse ever to dust of my japanese :)

the 4 books can be found here:

a french version is coming out later this year

Finally received the 4 books. It surprised me how long they are and the art work is really, really nice. Too bad I cannot understand almost any of it :) Now where'd I put that dictionary...

I bought Glaucos few weeks ago when I was in Japan.
So - Jome - how did you succeed with your revitalizing of Japanese? :)

I have all 4 books in french and i really liked the drawing style. In my opinion it catches really well the underwater world and the sensations one might have when freediving and moving underwater. My only criticism would go towards the storyline implementing death and tragedy into the freediving world. I know tragedy is a powerfull story telling tool, but especially in freediving i don't think we need more tragic elements. I already have difficulties to explain to my familly that i'm not a death driven person and actually really enjoying life through freediving a lot more than without. And all the tragic freediving events, of course getting media coverage, don't make that task easier.
Enough complaining, Glaucos is still a great piece of art and i enjoy rereading it everytime. :)
