I went on another trip the day after I got back from the last one. It was a family trip with mostly fishing. My son was with me and he asked me about 50 times if we could go spearfishing. After the whole day of baiting squid and tying hooks I was glad to hit the water.

My son hit the water first. I had him get his gun and swim to shore with it un-loaded. I followed him and loaded him up. He was swiming with no weight belt, and at 10 years old he has been snorkeling for about 4 years now. He is very comfortable in the water. He swam away from me in front of me a little bit and started to hunt. After about 10 minutes I swim over within 20 feet of him. He waves me over and tells me that there is a bit trigger fish close to him. I tell him "well get em then!" I put my face in the water and swim over to him and watch as he slowly raises up the Riffe Mid handle #0 and tries to position his shot. When he was ready he took his shot. The spear nailed the trigger perfetc snapping the spine up forward behind the head. I was stoked to see the whole thing happen. I was more stoked than my kid I think. It was only a triggerfish but it might as well have been a 50lb WSB to me.

It was the end of the day and I had to get back to the ramp before the tide was too low. We had to head back to the boat. My kid was so stoked by getting the fish he had enough energy to jump off the boat and climb back on about 10 times before we left.

We went back to the Castle and filleted all of the triggerfish and had a big fish fry. It was a great time. I wish I could take them out more often. Summer is comming up fast so I am going to go for a two weeker I think.

The triggerfish is responsible for alot of great memories in Baja.
