Hi Freedivers - Sam here, I have been freediving on my own for a few years now, i think i'm the only one here in St Lucia - so being part of a forum seems really weird.

I'm looking forward to learning more about the sport and particularly looking for tips on excercises to increase my bottom time.

I own a small marine engineering firm, building docks and sea defences, under water demolition, salvage and beach regeneration, so i'm in the water all the time - but Freediving is just for fun - when i can sneak off and leave the cell phone behind.

Thanks for the welcome guys, the different threads are fascinating, I have not got much work done the last couple of days - looking at apnoea training excercises and speargun lessons for dummies. AlanMc - I'll give you a shout next time i'm heading there - I have been doing some work by you - underwater survey for NAWASA and some stuff for fisheries. I would love to do a dive or two just for fun. Grenada is beautiful, but work usually takes me to the less pleasant bits!

Yes its very nice, it is in the middle of a massive refurbishment with loads of extra villas being built that are very beautiful. I should think it is all going to be finished by next year - we stayed there for the night a few months ago for free in one of the new villas with Butler service, private hot tubs and all sorts - in return we had to give them feedback - needless to say - it was spectacular. You are right in the middle of the world heritage site and the best diving. A friend of mine, Molly, is the pr manager there; you might get a good deal through her - mcdaniel.molly@gmail.com especially if you could do a write up on deeperblue. Although you are in the middle of the Soufriere Marine Management Area there is not much diving accessible from the beach - you are going to need to take a short boat ride to the bays immediately north and south of Jalousie but i think they will organise all this for you with their own dive boats. The beach there is artificial with imported white sand which is great for kids. I spent the day in Soufriere yesterday with the family and there is so much to see and do. Don't forget to go for a hot mud bath at the volcano after a hard days diving or hiking!
There are a lot of more budget accomodations in the area but certainly nothing as beautiful as Jalousie.

Thanks for that Sam, I am thinking about a trip over with the family towards the end of May 2011 but we’ll have to wait and see.
As for the budget accommodation, very kind of you to mention but that’s not really what I’d be looking for.

Sure give me a shout whenever you coming down so we could meet up.
