good beginner fins

what are some good ones to start with, and cost a reasonable price. i am completely new, and will be starting off in the azores. i will be doing some scuba and snorkeling. i am also hoping to go specops, and would like something similar to a military setup...

For a military set up, try ScubaPro Jet fins or US Divers Rocket fins, although I have seen some US Navy SEALS use the Force Fin.

military and coast guard rescue swiimmers (heli or ship ) usually have power fins(shorter fins) snorkeling usually have blades , so i suppose scuba fins are in the midle and they are the better selection , and that is what i suggest , now personally i prefer the avanti quatro (mares) for scuba , if you are looking for power fins you can search for them by their category or have a look for Force Fin - Pro Force , or you may also like to see the 3XL Turtle Power Fin
 
"Beuchat Jet Fins". Probably used by more commercial divers around the world than all of the other makes and types of fins put together.

It's possible that there are newer designs that are better and for snorkelling/freediving long fins definitely are but nothing compares to the history of the jet fin. They have been proven to be the toughest most efficient fin around for 40 years.

If you get Jet Fins you know "for certain" that you will be getting great fins. Anything else and you can't be sure.

If you need to build up leg strength to better tolerate Jet Fins, get a pair of Viper V-7s and use them in lap swimming, snorkeling, and boogie boarding. Have heard that Vipers are also in use by RS and specops. ^^
 
ScubaPro Jet fins or US Divers Rocket fins i was told these are whats used throughout training. I do need to get booties, and get a good feel for it. Thanks for all the great info guys! If you have any less expensive / preferred places to buy im totally new. I also need is shipped to an APO addy. I would love to get the mask, bootie, fins, snorkel combo. Thanks again guys!
 
Mike. You don't say where you hail from, unless New Z is New Zealand? You mention the Azores but not sure of the geographic link. Most people include a location in their personal info. You'll find that helps in getting relevant replies on DB.

Re buying stuff. Two main options. First a local dive shop. Advantages include local support/advice and ability to see and try goods. Disadvantage is usually more expensive. Second option is internet shopping. Advantage is price, price and price. Also sometimes stock availability. Disadvantage can be remote location re shipping and returning stuff but this is getting better all the time. Third option is for disreputable sorts. Go local, see and try then buy off the internet.

Deeperblue shop is good (personal experience) and a quick search on google will find you loads of other sites. Need to know your local to be more specific.
