Hello all,
As I said in a previous post, I am a newb and need a couple of explanations. Could someone please explain what breathups and ventilations are and how they are used?

Thanks for being patient with me:)

Lee

Lee,

Ventilations are simply the action of breathing in then out (or out then in). You will also see lots of people talking about "ventilation cycles" and often they are mentioning how many per minute. So 4 ventilation cycles per minute is breating in and out 4 times per minute. It gets more complecatied as there are a number of ways to breathe in and out.

Breathups - are a sequence of different types of ventilations aimed at getting the body prepared for a breath hold. It is often scripted and might include some fast ventilations, some slow ones, some deep ones, some shallow ones, some with pauses, some without etc.

hope that helps

Lee,

Here is a list of freediving terms that might help you.

Note: "Ventilating" is listed in relation to the ear and is different from "Ventilations" that you asked about.
