I'm new to freediving and wanted to introduce myself. I found this forum recently and I've read so many threads my head is spinning.

I was scuba diving a couple weeks ago at Troy Springs and saw a freediver at the bottom who looked so relaxed and calm that I was amazed. I wish I had a chance to talk to him, but by the time I got out and took my gear off he was gone. I knew right away I wanted to be able to do the same.

I've started working on CO2 and O2 tables (not in water), but I'm having a really hard time overcoming the urge to breath. Sometimes I can get up to 1:30 and other times I can't even make a minute - pretty frustrating. I don't think I've felt any contractions yet. Typically what happens is my chest and throat start feeling tight, my mind starts going fast, and I become uncomfortable.

The other problem I've had is trying to figure out whether I'm close to hyperventilating. At the end of my breath up I've been taking about three slow deep breaths (not quite complete exhalation or inhalation) and the last exhale is complete and then inhale almost as much as I can. Does this sound ok, or should I do something else?

Thanks for the great resource, and I'd appreciate any advice I can get.

Thanks for the link. That thread was actually one of the first I found and did answer almost all of my questions. Unfortunately I seem to be going backwards right now and my breath holds (on land doing CO2 and O2 tables) are getting worse.

If anybody can recommend someplace or someone near Tallahassee that can help I'd appreciate it. I saw there's a freediving school in Miami, but that's too far for me to travel unfortunately.
