Hi ,

me and the other half are looking to book our annual 2 week break from the desks shortly, and as usual highly freedivable sea is one of the main deciding factors.

Unfortunately lack of lottery winnings precludes the Bahamas / Turks & Caicos / Cayman etc!!! this time! rofl

Sooo... I was wondering if anyone could recommend any of the Greek islands for good shore accessible freediving? or Italian coast?

I was thinking of Sardinia, but looks quite expensive., and have already been to Turkey / Cyprus / Malta etc....

Thanks in advance for any advice from any 'been there’s'....

Hallo my friend,

Greek Islands are amazing so it is hard for me to tell!!! Depending on your breath holding abilities you can take a look at the island of Symi which is north of Rhodes as well as Rhodes itself. Symi is a short of primitive island, back to the basics I would say! It has an amazing and very lively u/w world but it id also quite deep. All good spots are deeper than 20m and sometimes deeper than 30m. Rhodes is a shallower island but almost equally beautiful.

You can also try the island where i come from: Paros. There are less good diving spots but they are easier accessible without a boat.

I have also heard that there are some good spots at the islands of Corfu, Ithaka, Cefallonia and Leykada but i have never been there!!!

Hope I helped!

Hi,

I will be visiting Corfu in August, and found a spot in the North-West I am looking forward to visit.

It is near Afionas, and called the Twin Bays of Porto Timoni. As I read on some websites, it is quite a long walk, but worth it. The spot is also said to be famous by local spearfishermen. Can anyone confirm this?

If any other freedivers have good advice of other spots at Corfu, please post them for me.

Ciao, Rai

Panos,

Hi, thank you for the advice! Am looking at a few of those islands, and will hopefully have something booked soon.

Thank you again!

I am going to be in in a villa on the beach near Pefkos on Rhodes in September...I would like to take one of those Manny Puig pole spears with me just in case.:martial
