A quick question to those of you who take a GoPro down with you on your freedives: do you use the floaty backdoor? Is it effective, even when your camera is attached to a monopod/stick? If not, what do you do instead to make sure your several-hundred-dollar-investment doesn't end up staying on the ocean floor?

A lanyard tied through the hinge in the centre of the housing (at the bottom). A simple bowline does the trick.
Can post pics if needed.

I have worked on my breathhold and equalization, so that I can retrieve a dropped gopro, if needed!

:D

Actually, I'm having trouble visualizing that... pics would be great (y)

Hehe, what about open-water? :giggle:
Good plan though, lol; only dive where you can touch the bottom :p

messed up my formatting on the above comment, here it is again:

Sorry for the delay. The attached photos show some basic dyneema threaded through the hinge (remove the back door first) and a simple bowline knot. Make sure to use a thin enough cord that you can get the back door on to the housing again - you don't want to run the risk of the seal not closing properly. I have a couple sections or dyneema for various mounts (short ones for gun mounts and longer ones for my pole mount).
