hi,
what are your best settings for Gopro video when you want to record a full dive (breathing up + descent + ascent) let's say till 40m (in the ocean) ? Keeping in mind that editing will be done with GoPro Studio.
(selfie-style or a second diver who dives with you and holds the gopro)

Protune? 1080p? fps? wide mode? white balance? exposure.. etc.

Sorry can't help on the settings, but keep in mind, even a gopro has considerable drag. The diver with the cameral needs to have a lot more dive time capacity than it would take to do the same dive without the camera. He will also be working a lot harder than normal.

Hi.

I don't have the silver model with screen, but I guess you can save some battery life by switching it off and using one button mode.
Protune and other fancy settings I have not bothered yet. Gopro Studio has a protune filter which has been sufficient for me in underwater use.

Instead of 1080p I recommend using 1440p, then you have about +/- 10% of vertical adjustment during editing, before converting to 1080p for the final video. Just in case your selfie mount was misaligned.

FOV should be wide for selfies and close ups. If your buddy films you from far away, then you might consider medium FOV, but then the mount must be very stable. Just use wide is the best bet.

FPS depends on how dark is the deepest dive. If its dark and no extra light, then go for minimum (24 fps). Of course more fps gives you the opportunity to make slow motion, but it needs the extra light as well.

Protune and FPS affect memory card usage, so I tend to minimize those, because I have long sessions with the battery bacpac.

Note that the standby mode will consume battery almost as much as recording, so keep the camera OFF when not recording.

Great tip, i'll try that tomorrow! :)

No slow motion needed for freediving, i use 24fps to get max light.

About protune, and what settings to use for best after editing results, i got a lot of info at MicBergsma's youtube channel.

i have done some shots by now here is a video shot at 30fps, 2.7K, wide mode, protune on, spotmeter on, exposure -1, color: gopro color, sharpness low.
