Gran Canaria Tell Me All!!

I am off to live in Gran Canaria for a while and am a keen freediver. Tell me all you can about freediving in Gran Canaria please!!
How deep is the water/how sheltered is it/What are the currents like/viz/temperature and active spearos and freedivers???
Please help as I will try and start a club there if there isnt one.
All help will be greatly appreciated!

jeez you get around dave? how was kuwait?

there is a guy posting from canary islands down in the scuba area ... maybe he knows some apnea clubs.

Good to hear from you.How are things?
I am still in Kuwait - never to return. Bad place, bad experiences with work, some good sailing and average diving.No freediving here...
I leave in June and then a new job in the canaries.
Thanks for the help. I will let you know how things go...

Well, it seemed like a giggle. Good job, nice place ,close to home (ish) and great climate and diving. So I now have a 2 year contract on Gran Canaria.
SaltFree subsidiary in Gran Canaria anyone??? Winter training?...
I shall definitely get things going with regards to the freediving there and hope to teach scuba now and again too.
See you in about 5 weeks!

I hope there is an easyjet flight there as I won't be able to afford much more!!
