Hi Guys.

Going to Zakynthos in 4 weeks time. Will be buying a 2-year licence from the Port Authority in Zakynthos Town when I get there, but understand that all the details inside will be in Greek with no English translation.

If I do nowt before then and not speaking the lingo, it will be gibberish to me.

Has anyone got :-

a) a copy of the Greek text inside a current licence

b) an English translation of it

Just a) would do as I could get it translated before I go.

Cheers.

hey turunc most people talk english in creece, i am sure if you ask some one in the potr authority to translate it it would be no problem.
I hope you enjoy zakynthos and catch lots of fish.
all the best

Cheers Gills.

I have since found an exceptionally helpful guy at the Ministry of Mercantile Marine Aegean and Island Policy in Piraeus who has been sorting all sorts of things out for me.

He's managed to send me a translation of the appropriate rules as well as confirm the things I have to take to the PA when I go in for the licence.

All this for a beginner spearo who's not taken spearo gear to Greece before. It will be surface/very shallow water stuff this time round. Was in Turkey last month practicing getting used to diving with weights on for the first time so looking forward to it.

cheers.

When I get my Greek fishing licence next month I'll be looking to try other Greek islands in the next few years. Someone suggested Crete is really nice to holiday in.

Never been to Crete. If I wanted to spearfish from the shore in surface/ very shallow water, which areas/resorts would you recommend?

on the north side of the island the water gets deep gradualy and there is nice sandy beaches for swimming and many places with rocky grounds were you can spearo.the north side of the island is were all the tourist resources are any way so the best places would be stalis and xersonisos. on the other side of the island the south the water is very deep very quickly great for spearo cause not many people around with jet skis and other power boats.
where are you from you self?
