Hello everyone-I've already posted on the main board a couple of times, but I just noticed this section, so I thought I'd go ahead and post here too. I recently discovered these forums on my quest (with endless determination) to find a copy of Tanya Streeter's Freediver special. [Almost] needless to say, glennv had a copy and kindly posted it for all to view, so my inclination that a 'freediving' forum would have it (at the time I wasn't sure what kind of community for this sport I would find-with the small amount that I currently know about it) was right.

Anyway, I got what I was originally looking for, as well as a post by THE Tanya Streeter herself explaining the DVD situation (which I personally thought was pretty cool :D ). The most amazing thing about all of this, however, is that I have found an AWESOME community of people that are genuinely interesting in what they do: Dive. I may be a beginner (Probably something before beginner if there is such a thing?), but I have never been so motivated to get learning, as well as reading all I can about something, simply by a group of people in an online forum. Thanks for that!

Before I go on blathering too much, I suppose I'll officially introduce myself (if you haven't figured out, I have a knack for speaking/talking/chatting/writing...).

My name is Jeff, I'm a sophomore in college (will be a junior), I'll be 21 in June, I reside in Illinois (yeah-not a lot of water around here :(...) I am studying physics and hope to pursue medicine (of sort-perhaps even related to diving, eh?!). I enjoy traveling, and have been to Europe a few times (all over-and I love it all!), and I have really grown to love athletics (I used to be one of those 'technology kids' and didn't get out much), but I lost some weight and started running a lot, but have slacked a bit over the past few years, not keeping a 'normal routine.'

Last summer I had the opportunity to try out scuba diving and absolutely loved it and found that I was really drawn to the water and later in the fall, as well as now, miss and long to be in the water (I never really cared for it that much before). I then discovered freediving and liked the concept even more than scuba diving. I would like to get some real training (somehow-maybe they have corn diving in the silos?), but for now have just started running/jumping rope and lifting a bit.

I think that should be enough on me for now, but I wanted to mention something else that I have been pondering/wondering about in the freediving community, and that is, is there/are there any freediving magazines? I figured it would be fairly obscure if there were. I know I have seen a few online freediving magazines, but no print magazines. I don't know much about freediving as of yet (don't worry, it won't take me long), but I thought I might put some of my writing skills to good use and start an online zine, and if there's enough enjoyment out of it, I might look into doing a quarterly kind of thing or something else (I know, getting a magazine into publication is a LOT of work-but it would be worth it!).

Anyway, that's just an idea/hypothetical situation right now, let me know what you think about any of it and I'll give it some serious consideration. I will probably, at the very least start a webzine/site and then if that happens, look here to see if people are interested in writing some articles for it.

And...(take a deep breath-although that shouldn't be too hard for this group, eh?)...I just wanted to finish by saying kudos to all of you on a great board and community-and I love this forum even more every day (I think I've been on it 20 times just today scouring for info!)

Take care and happy diving!

Jeff (and sorry for the length-I can trim what I write, I usually do, but sometimes I feel the length is necessary-this is one of those times :) )

Okay-that was EXTREMELY lengthy-I'm going to condense it for those of you who do not wish to read through all of that...here goes:

Name: Jeff
Location: Illinois, USA
Age: 20
Interests: Traveling, Learning ALL I can about freediving/actually freediving

Would like to thank:
Entire Freediving forum/especially those who responded (including Tanya!) and glennv for posting the video! Awesome!

Wants to know if: There are any print magazines on freediving (especially in the US)

Wants to know if: Anyone would like a print magazine (if there aren't any/or if there are what they would like to see in them-I haven't seen any, so I might say I'd just like to see one! :D )

Can't Wait to: Get some training and get into the water!

Okay, that is a super condensed version of what I just wrote. If you feel inclined to read the 'wordy' [somewhat/mostly] complete sentence version of this, please feel free!

Jeff

hey jeff, thanks for your contribution and also letting us know you/what/where you are. Such openness is always appreciated and i am sure you'll make stax of good contacts here.

Best from the desert heat here,
Sara :wave

You want to make contact with Jon and Erik who dive the Great Lakes. Their version of Ski the Big Potato should be Spear the Freshwater Sea. Too cold for my taste but there are lot of fish up thataway.
