Greetings! (and a couple of qns) fr Singapore/Australia

hey there everybody! i'm a Singaporean currently studying in Brisbane. i learnt how to scuba dive a few years ago and have since been hooked on anything to do with the ocean. i really want to learn how to freedive in order to spend more time underwater looking at stuff, without cumbersome scuba gear (and maybe compete, also hoping to venture into underwater photography). so, can anyone recommend a freediving course in SE Queensland?

Also, are there different associations that give certification, just like for scuba there's NAUI and PADI? I've only heard of AIDA for freediving.

Does certification have to start with AIDA 1 star? I've seen some websites offering the AIDA 2 star course without mentioning the 1 star.

welcome. I grew up in Singapore though I now live in Sydney.

Other than AIDA there is also CMAS and some other organisations that teach freediving (PFI and others). Not sure what you will find up there in Brisbane.

Keep in mind that because its still a relatively niche sport there is also the opportunity to learn great skills personally from accomplished freedivers without necessarily receiving accreditation.

I did the AIDA *** course though and it was really good, esp. the safety aspects.

AIDA 1 star is not necessary for most people, unless they've never been in the water. 2 star is where most people start off.

11th Feb. I've looked up a course here, but it doesn't cover depth diving. But sure if you could give me info on some lessons I'll check them out too thanks!
