Hello everyone!

Figured I'd take the time to introduce myself and get rid of that annoying header... Anyways I am, as the title suggests, from Canada, Alberta. Sadly there are no pretty oceans or lakes nearby, so I make due with Pools. I have been free-diving ever since I could swim, but only just recently found out what it was I was doing. As well I have recently taken steps to further my abilities, as I enjoy dynamic free-diving and snorkeling. I was wondering what one can due to build tolerance while diving and swimming, as so far I can only do a minute, or 2 laps before I need to surface. As for static dives, I A. do not have a buddy, and B. piss off the lifeguards while attempting to, so I don't really know how I perform in that area. For now I swim because I love swimming, and it helps balance my student life, which is sitting at a desk taking a game design course. Hopefully I can develop myself using all of your advice!

Pretty quiet in here...

On a side note I tried a static dive today and the best I did was 3:30. Where should I go from there?

Hi Dr, welcome to db, there are lots of tutorials about improving you breath hold try the search button.
330 is good but if you could do the same while being active underwater that would be extremely good. Have look here Freediving Training & Techniques

I dont do pools at all anymore my friend. I go to a few lakes for spearfishing and out to the coast. If you have a wetsuit there are a few spots to go to close to Edmonton, even if you don't hunt.
I work right next to the old YMCA though haha!

Hmm, why not? No fun in them anymore? And as for a wetsuit, all I got are my board shorts. :( Where can you spearhunt in AB? Jackfish lake? Mink Lake? Any lake?

Very cool Erik, Welcome to the real world Hawk!

Post pics of your dives, I want to see the water there.
Cheers, Kerry.

I spent a lot of time in pools when I was competing, but prefer to be outdoors. I usually only go in the water with a gun now, and the lifeguard kicked me out last time haha! j/k :blackeye

I go to Twin lake a lot which is 22k west of Pigeon lake. Good vis usually and very deep. Thousands of perch/jack and some burbot, plus there's stuf on the bottom that's been placed there by scuba divers over the years ie: platforms/swings/you name it.

The lakes near Jasper are usually clear and Minnewanka at Banff is worth diving the underwater dam if you can get to the depths there.
