Just getting the hang of all this. Been diving for over 40 years, exclusively freediving/spearfishing last 15. Spend a lot of time looking for yellowtail (dorado/tuna with El Nino conditions) on kelp paddies from Catalina to border. Going to Northern Costa Rica (Tamarindo area) in July for a wedding, want to do some hunting for pelagics. Anyone have any input about boats, places, people, etc.?

Welcome to DB.

I can't help with current info on Tamarindo- it was about 15 years ago when I was there. But please do come participate in our new CA-West Coast forum. It seems to be little known and neglected, and there are not enough people reading my stories and sharing their own local diving stories. I have a high need for approval.

Hi Bill - thanks for the welcome. Nice WSB. I am going to display my ignorance and tell you I don't have a clue where to find the CA - West Coast Forum! Perusing the forums, I don't see anything like that. I searched for it with Google and didn't get any hits either. Help me out! Looks like you're down there by Riffe?

If you read my thread, you were in the forum. But to find it from scratch, look here.

But I think we just identified part of the problem- you probably wouldn't look for a CA forum under "International" because you live in CA, and neither would I.

But I think the best way to approach this site and similar sites like Spearboard is to simply click on "New Posts" every time you come back. You can quickly scan and see that there posts in forums that are unlikely to interest you, but your attention will be drawn to new posts in forums that do interest you.
