hey just moved to victoria from new zealand looking for free dive buddies and if anyone knows were to buy a gun in vancouver or victoria?also what to expect with cold water free diving ?

Welcome sir! We are far and few between, but we are determined. Check in the Canada forums. Spearfishing can be good on the island- generally the further north the better as there are less fisherman and more fish.
There are a few guys on the island, a few on the mainland, and we all try to get together whenever possible. I'm 1300km away in Alberta. gear is bets bought online- jimdoe2you does us some great deals and service.
This thread should answer some of your questions:

Welcome from Texas! Got a chance to fish for salmon a decade ago in B.C.--had a blast & saw orcas right up close (6 M)!

yeah i hear they come really close but the vis doesn't seem to great think that would be a little sketchy having one of those guys appear from the abyss i know there safe but still.does anyone know if i have to be concered about the man in the grey suit here,we had to keep an eye out in the NZ but how is it in b.c anything to be watchful of.

You'll see dogfish only- small sharks that are not a problem. The vis can be over 40 metres at the right spot/time! Generally it's about 10metres thoough on average.
