I have been reading up on snooping for snapper as I really enjoy hunting them and have one particular reef where I keep seeing BIG snapper and Coral trout.

When I dive a always here grunts and long croaking noises that sound like a cow, sometimes close sometimes far away. It wasn't until yesterday when I shot this new fish i have never seen before (see new fish new thread in the respective forum) that i realized that fish really do grunt! It was clear as crystal so I mimicked the sound on my following dives by forcing air in my mouth down my throat with the back of my tongue. It seemed to work, i had 2 fish approach me, a small snapper and an emperor fish. I bagged the later.
I have 2 questions.
1. Has anyone on here used this method, I am now sure it works.
2. Is there a way of doing it that is not so tiring, my bottom time drops so much when i do this. It is very demanding on my bady, should I just get used to it or does anyone know a better way?

Thanks in Advance

I use a few different methods for attracting fish. Most of which include some sort of noice. In hawaii we dont have as many species of snapper as you folks do in asia but Im sure its similar between species.

I have found that scatching the reef with a piece of rock works real well for sertain fish.

Grunting works really good for others. I have found that a grunt or "croak" will work on most speciese we have of trevally, and Uku (green jobfish)

Also try giving your bands a strum now and then. This works well too.

But remember, the dose makes the poison, when you spark a fishes interest back off on the noise, sometimes too much will push them further away.

for more pelagic species flashing metal (your flopper being wiggled) and tapping a knife on your spear will attract them often. our a flasher rig made out of bits of metal or busted cd's works well as the click and rattle and flash. Just a float with a rope and a weight with the flashy bits in between, leave it floating in some berley and come backafter 15 min or so. good luck.

Yep the grunts work well.
I find that grunting uses less energy then scrapping rocks.

Just try all kind of grunts and see what works best and uses less energy.

heard about grunting technique with back of the tongue against soft plate and that it makes miracles. never tried it.
