Here ya go FF, just taken these:

Apart from a new sharper spear everything else is original, including the rubbers

It would be awesome to locate the original owner. I would be surprised if it was lost there as it is quite deep with fast tides, at times.

I wondered if it was a fish that had been shot and done a runner with the gun or a diver in trouble so he dropped the gun to get himself out of trouble.

Found this stuff previously about the gun from DB posts:

New to the Spearo world and I have a few questions regarding a particular gun. I have the offer to buy a Beuchat Cavalero that is fine shape. The gun has been used once and was immediatly rinsed off and dryed.

I can't seem to find specific information regarding the gun. I've seen other models from Beuchat on the WWW, but can't seem to find information out about this particual model. The only post I've found is that the Cavalero is a beginer gun, perhpas the low side of average. That's okay with me..... as stated I'm new to the sport.

Here's what I know of the gun:

-Single band (probably 20MM)
-Black, approximately 110-120CM
-Model is Cavalero

AND

Those guns are from Rene Cavalero and are a true legend, Beuchat stills manufactures them as the Polinesia and Rascasse they are great entry guns and you will get a lot of fish and a lot of fun with them. I have two of them, one is 30 years old, the other is 17, and still kickin` I don`t use them no more but they have a place in my heart as excellent weapons.

No idea if this is related.

Hi guys, I've not been around for a while. Life!

Went in a for a quick day dive the other week at Cobo. Saw a few Bass and Mullet but they were very skittish and didn't want to make my acquaintance.

Hoping to get out a little more... my gill flaps have all but skinned over.

Cheers mate, it would be interesting to learn more about it. At the time it was a pretty cool gun but I guess now it's like using a cane rod!

Saying that though, three of my mates, who were into it far more than me, had JBL spear-guns, imported in. They were triple band guns with interchangeable spear tips, like a 'break away' tip. It was quite funny as I think they were designed for Tuna and other big game fish and so were generally over-gunned for Guernsey.

I remember vividly diving near Lihou and my friend Paul shooting a 3lb mullet which essentially exploded and was only connected from the head section to the tail section via its spine. I think it was at that point that he realised it might be a big too powerful, with a spear tip that was possibly a little too wide :crutch

That style of rear handle Euro gun is still the best type for our waters, a new band & spear would see it working fine I am sure.

Some things have progressed in the last 20 years but not a whole lot really - Suits are much better now, more supple & possibly warmer but the old double lined suits were fine & much longer lasting!

Fins are one area of vast improvement but only applicable if you want to swim for miles or dive very deep, I still use my 25 year old jet fins for hunting the shallows!

Masks are definitely better.

Stretchy weight belts definitely better.

Guns, well yes but not a lot! Better bands & s/s spears maybe but fundamentally not changed!
One exception would be compressed air guns or more accurately the development of dry barrel airguns. However you can in fact DIY a 20 year old air gun for a few £ to bring it up to speed.
What has changed more than anything is the quantity of fish in our sea!

Interesting update for me FF. I might actually try doing some next year. Though I will defo need a new suit as a mouse took a liking to my current one in my old shed. He also liked my mask so I'd need one of those too.

What price are we talking?

I have decent boots, gloves, and fins (well decent enough for me). I won't need a belt as I'm not a good swimmer and won't be diving down deep anywhere.

I have a GoPro HD cam so I'd probably just go a few times next year to give that a go underwater.

Take a look at Eliossub

Weight belt —*unless you want to swim like a cork, I'd suggest having a belt and just putting a little lead on it... say 6..8lb. Experiment with it and you'll find out what feels good for your dive style and body mass.

You can get really good custom made to measure suits for less than £150.
Beardy is right, you need to compensate for the suits buoyancy at least but you will need a little more than that unless you want a badly cricked neck!
The problem is you body acts like a cork & you have to really crane you head up to see in front of you unless you sink your body to get a better less acute angle.
Dont worry though you will still float, most of us use a combination of a weight vest, a belt & ankle weights so as to distribute a little weight evenly.

Great, £150 sounds like a bargain.

Weights do sound sensible now that you both describe it like that.

I use the Go Pro for track days but would love to get some underwater footage with it, as the wide angle would give a great perspective.

As the boys have said, weights are essential really, makes your life a lot easier in the water. I use between 20-26lbs depending on the sort of diving but you can start a lot lighter than that.

Interesting about the focusing issue, never even considered it. I might go for the case with the flat lens already fitted and pressure tested, can't trust myself with a screwdriver, especially as one bloke got some minor leakage.

I was very spawny so I thought nothing at the time of catching a speargun, it felt so normal :martial

My brother Derek only ever owned one speargun as he was always happy using a hand spear but, he also found one as well!
He saw the gun hanging in mid water with the spear discharged & stuck in the bottom, just outside St Sampson's harbour - I have got the gun now, it must be 30 years old!

You gotta want to know the story of how these funny little stories happen. As the island is kinda triangular shaped could it be the Guernsey triangle getting these divers?
