I just hope my diving gets up to a standard to benefit the gun!...



In today for 4 hours off the yak. Saw loads of fish of all sorts, my fave was the shoal of gilty bream, good size but none taken as I can't aim my 75 straight!
Some good drifts in strong tide - wouldn't try it without the yak!
I took the 75 but actually vis was pretty reasonable and would have benefitted with the 90. Hit one bass and the spear just bounced off...
Best dive was sitting about a metre above a large bass just drifting with it, enjoying the moment. :)

Foxfish - in answer to the question you posed a week or so ago about seeing a couple of other spearos at Port Grat when you got that sole.... it may have been me, that's my front garden that is! Wish I could find some sole there, although the mullet I had the other day surprised me (in a culinary sense.) Cutlets/steaks in a lime and chili marinade overnight, then onto the barbie. Lovely. Would like to try a night dive sometime, but realise it's a bit of a dilemma cause I don't want to go on my todd with no experience, but don't want to impose on anyone by tagging along and learning their spots!

Sarnian85 well done on the mullet - they do turn out ok - and your recipe sounds tasty!!

I managed another trip, still on my flattie mission, but have to admit i was hoping for another sighting of the gilties - not this time tho...

i took the kayak out to do some drift dives, saw small bass, zillions of mullets and pollacks, and a nice flattie :)

I had my 90 with brand new bands, so with a stationary target, even i managed to make good the shot!
I was pretty excited as it was a real clonker of a fat plaice and both my wife and son do love plaice goujons :) :)

Jonny that’s a monster Plaice, top points to you mate.
What’s the weight, tell me you did weigh it???
Makes my 2 flaties from today look like s**t.

I just got back from a short, not very good dive!
Started off at Grande Harve intending to look for a few plaice amongst the boat moorings but there were 8-9 windsurfers that seemed to be playing "lets weave in & out of the boat moorings" game!
Sooo I went down to Fort Le Marchant to look for a bass, got in = terrible vis in the shallows so moved out along the reef only to see two chaps plug fishing right were I was heading!
Soooo I turned around & got back out however I did twat a 3.2lb bass right at the waters edge.
Now it gets worse - at the top of the beach I am getting out of my suit, grab the beaver tail & start to pull over my head when beaver tail completely detaches from the rest of my jacket:head
So that is the end of my Diveskin custom suit after about 4 years of rough treatment - when I say the end I mean it too as I had to cut the thing off me to get out rofl
It was one of those moments of "panic" while I had the suit ruffled up over my head, blindly stumbling around!!

Ha ha great story Martyn - I did larf! I thought things like that only happened to me! Like getting all togged up then realising I didn't have my gun, so having to drive back hime, weight belt and all! Good effort swimming from Grand Havre to Fort Le Marchant by the way!:)
