Sorry caleb, I posted the weight in the fom page, it was 6lb 10 oz. We had some of the top fillet last night, they were about an inch thick!

Sorry to dissappoint, but the Ank is Roger Le Poidevin's boat, wooden cabin cruiser with blue deck moored in the pool. BBQ's and drinkies aboard are sort of legend, as are (were?) Rog's Bonfire Night do's.

Back on spearfishing for a moment, me and JKS had a good day yesterday. We bagged a couple of big mullet and ten nice bass, the biggest bass running to over 8lb. Beautiful dive, fantastic weather. Sea was lovely.
The bass are on ice and I am now going to start filleting.............this could take a while! Family and friends are already gathering like vultures.
We did see a couple of bigger fish, but they eluded us. We also saw some shoals of white bream, which were very skittish in shallow water. One or two would have been british record size (cobus will be getting nervous!)
Getting onto Jonny's plaice, I didn't realise quite how big it was , 6lb 10 is a real monster. Provided nobody manages to spear another tuna, it should easily win FOM and possibly flatfish of the year. fantastic specimen..you lucky.....!

Mike well done on those bass! can you tell us what sort of diving you guys do to find those bass? Is it deep or in the bootlace? Do you get rocky caves or is more bays & gullies?

Yesterday was very mixed diving. Deepest only 30 feet. We checked out a few holes. where we found nice shoals of mullet . We also did some waiting on the bottom and quite a few bass , mullet and bream came in to say hello. We also ploughed our way through thick weed in only a few feet of water. Some of the bigger fish were right in the shallows. It was great to be in the water.

Sounds like a good idea, haven't been out frightening fish for some time. Booked up on Friday night and might be unavailable early Saturday, depending how Friday night goes.
I am visiting the 'other' island in a week and a half, so plan to call in to Apnea to get some proper fins. Do you know where they are based?

Thats on Friday! had a look at the long term forecast..getting slightly worried, may have strong sw to contend with. Whats ur NE coast like?
Spirit, just re read ur message, seems my timings may be out, must be the red wine ....... for clarification, I will be in ur home town Fri 26th to Sun 28th, after that back in Jersey, if u r still, there after that and need a hand with locating Apnea or want a dive , would be a pleasure. regards
Mate, the wind has been 4-5 west all summer! NE is sh.t literally!
NE is where the islands sewage is dumped - to be fair it is dumped 1.5 miles out in one of the worlds strongest tides but not my first choice for diving!
Anyhow long range forecast carry more sh.t that the NE coast so take them with a pinch of salt (or antibiotics if we dive that coast) LOL
