Help the poor MARRIED man.

I'm looking for a gun bag without spending heaps.
To suit a 115cm gun 150cm shaft. I only have the one gun
and polespears, so it doesn't need be a tanker.

If anyone has one they don't need, or if any of you
get a new one from santa.

cheers.

I use a Lidl's fishing rod bag, surprisingly fancy for £9. Made of heavy synthetic canvas, it will take 3 spearguns/rods + 3 side pockets for spears/rod rests/bank sticks/net poles + 2 pockets for small fishing boxes, reels, tools, etc. Takes 5ft rod sections (152cm). Similar bags (& longer ones) in fishing stores £16-£24. Only problem - the zips tend to get salted up.

Portland oceaneering had a simple, hip canvas speargun bag, from one of the Italian makers I think, last time I was there.

Rob Allen offer 3 different speargun bags with cool graphics. They look flimsey but I'd bet they are super-tough. I've only seen the pictures in their on-line .pdf catalog (Rob Allen spearguns, railguns and other spearfishing and freediving accessories.). Not sure of cost, probably neither cheap nor expensive.

There is also a hard plastic tube case option featured on one of the US sites, made out of plastic sewer piper & a bend section. Looks surprisingly good when painted.

I made my first gun bag from a cheap canvas tarp. Padded, folder then stitched and taped (broke 4 needles sewing it with a machine). I used the O-rings & some thin bungee chord to make a quick/simple/strong way of closing it. I added side ties to cinch it in. Reinforced the bottom to prevent the spear coming through and added a shoulder strap off an old sports bag. Some thoughts:
- don't store the gun in the bag. They need to be cleaned & air dried.
- sand gets everywhere (inc. any exposed sticky tape surface) so it needs to be easy to hose down & dry.

Of course, you probably don't have Lidls or a Rob Allen dealership nearby - but I bet there are plenty of good fishing shops with fantastic gear in Japan. How about a ski bag, perhaps padded with bubble wrap when travelling?

Thanks Mr.X

Yeah no shops anywhere near me. It's ski season now so plenty of ski and snowboard bags around, so far the cheaper ones have all got really gay looking graphics all over them, trying to avoid them if I can.maybe at the end of the season some of the bettre ones will go a bit cheaper?

Fishing stores have some good looking bags, they seem a bit small and very expensive. fishing here is hugely popular and expensive.

I like the armor bag on that other thread, it's not a bad price, + shipping??

thanks again.

That particular Armour bag went out of production a couple of months ago but they have brought out a new version with an extendible bit for longer guns. Shame really I was hoping to get one myself but not with a flappy bit at one end I won't be

Have you tried looking at mail order type sea angling shops if there is such a thing near to where you are, like Mr X says, rob bags are dirt cheap sometimes and can be excellent

Thanks Pastor.

can you explain the flappy bit at the end you mentioned, I can't find
a description of it, except that it's extendable.
Thanks mate.

I couldn't either, I would imagine that anything that is extendible by a any amount worth having will have a thinner bit if material at one end that can fold down easily. I would prefer to have a non extendible version available in different sizes with a bag of that quality.

look at leisurepro.com and search by "armor" you will find a detailed description, i used to have one of the armors, but gave it to a friend of mine..they are very good bags, and take all your gear not just guns...rob allen bags are indeed great too...

Thanks guys, I'm gonna have to find something local.
The wife just flipped her lid when I asked if I could get I bag.
Might look into a temporary DIY or snowboard bag.
Sometimes I long for the days when I was single. The bag would
be in the post. No I don't really mean that. Wow I envy some of you guys.

Happy spearing

Yeah, my ski bag if rather too ..."happy" looking too (not there is anything wrong with that of course).

Just think of the wife as the other more sensible half of your brain. On the other hand they do get in the way of making good spearing decisions sometimes.

Yeah you're right. She did let me get a gun, though I havn't used it yet. And she did somewhat agree to a wetsuit. I'm trying to get my kit together for the spring.
Guess I knew she would put he brakes sooner or later. Be warned people marriage isn't only just the end of s#x.
