thanks for the welcome, ok here goes my first question i know that there was a post similar to this but it didnt mention exactly what i wanted to know im planning on buying a cressi sl 100 ived read other posts mentioning other brands of pneumatic guns but nothing on cressi i would like to know where cressi stands in comparison with other pneumatic guns such as mares asso and other brands, i hope to hear soom from more knowledgeable members

im not an expert on pnemtics by any means, but i believe that most of them are very similar on the inside..cressi is agood brand i think its more comparable to a mares sten which is 13mm and shoots an 8mm spear so packs more punch versus the mares cyrano fo example which is 11mm and shoots 7mm sear so has more speed..i think in pnematics a lot of people tend to favor the cyrano more...then of course there is the mamba..do a search on that word here, should be fun

You can trust your Cressi SL cause it's a very good gun. I'ts comparable to the Mares Sten, Seacsub Asso, Tigullio Ras, Effesub Magnum and all the other airguns sharing the same fundamental feature: the inner barrell is 13mm (unlike the 11mm of Cyrano, Stealth and Spark) allowing to shoot thicker shafts (8 to 9mm), providing a remarkable shock power.
The unique feature of the Cressi SL is the position of the inner barrell: it's not concentrical to the outer barrell, but located on a higher axis, closer to the upper edge of the external barrell, making the aiming more instinctive, almost as instinctive as on bandguns.
This doesn't mean that the Cressi is more accurate, but as a matter of fact it's a bit easier to aim compared to the others: this fact practically ends up with more accuracy.
Another thing I like of it is the handle, more ergonomic than the other airguns. It's the classic Cressi handle, used also on the Cressi Apache and Comanche bandguns: a much better grip than, say for example, the Mares Sten.
You can upgrade your gun with a Mamba kit and it'll become a true hell of a gun.

wow man you guys really helped on my decition i think ima go for the cressi sl now does anybody know a cheaper price for this gun than $179 cuz thas the lowest i found if anyone knows of a cheaper price plz hit me up and once again thanx to those who responded to my post that was a good help
this is proberly too late but my advice is to stay away from cressi pneumatics i byed one on my hollyday in spain and a week after i came home the safe button broke. and the repair was only 10 dollar cheaper than a new gun.

Take this with a grain of salt, because I've never used a pneumatic, but why not a band gun? People in clear water like Florida and Hawaii tend to use them for better range. I can tell you that nobody uses them in Hawaii. I was told they are too loud, and the shaft is too slow for long shots. Maybe people who have used both can chime in...

According to some info you posted elsewhere you are young (relatively) and new to spearing. Air guns can be very usefull but are more specialised and for general use I would recomend a band gun. What do other people in your area use? I think you should hook up with some other members down your way (meet them through DB) and also check out the local dive shops. Generally I would not recommend a pneumatic gun to an inexperienced spearo.

Sorry for your misadventure, but be sure it was just an accident, one of those things that might happen sometimes, which could have happened with any gun of any sort. So it goes.
Back on Cressi, there are thousands, and I say thousands of Cressi Sl pneumatics out there, perfectly working and still solid after years of the hardest duty. You've just been unlucky.

Out of curiosity how much range would a sl 100 mamba have,would it be closer to a mamba cyrano 110 or a 970?
Also would a gun with a 13mm piston have a greater improvement with a mamba kit than a gun with a 11mm piston?
Would a small bend in the shaft cause problems with the mamba kit?
One more thing How sensitive is a pneumatic gun to sand?
I would love to hear what you guys think of these things.
