What are the pros and cons of the cressi commanche vs the comparable picasso model. Is one considered better than the other are they very similar? It seems like nobody likes the JBL. Why is that? Is there a problem with the JBLs or is it brand snobbery? I don't know anything about guns yet and need all the advice I can get.

i dont know anything about the guns youre talking about but as for jbl, ive never had a problem with any of their products and i continue to buy them. i have a sling, a travel sling, and a gun all from them, and i have tried other brands, but i prefer jbl. good luck in finding the answer to youre question
i think the main issue is that the other 2 guns are europens stule guns 9rear handle etc) which has proven in general to be a much better all round option for spearing as it is very easy to maneuver and has good range for the respective sizes in comparison to american style extended but guns. they are also much more hydrodynamic.
as for cressi vs Picasso they are VERY similar, i personally like the cressi commanche. however both of these guns have been around for along time and speargun technology has moved on in some areas (big thing with JBL issue as well is they are basically unchanged from the original seahornet guns they are based on from the 50's!)
in the States i know for a fact Mark Labacotta bring in OMER products and their current cayman HF model is absalutely brilliant particularly now with a 1300 available,which is a great alround size for reef and open water species. they arent the cheapest guns around but they are very eell price for the specifications.
big advantages over the Picasso and Cressi you are asking about are the following:
- Rail barrel vs floating shaft (better accuracy)
- handle angle very good (reduces recoil)
- hand located very high in comparison to other brands (allows better control and aiming)
- barrel shape 9cuttlebone v round) means the barrel is stronger and easier to maneuver while giving a very stable shooting platform.
but if you are set between the Picasso and the Cressi i'd go the cressi.
