I am hoping someone on here can tell me an easy way to balance my Omer xxv gold fitted with reel and standard spear. The gun is a bit muzzle heavy .I know about changing the spear (which I'm not going to do).I know there are stick on weights to add to the barrel which will work if the muzzle is light but I cant see they will work to make the muzzle lighter by adding near the handle as the gun has the reel fitted.
Any ideas anyone?

Maybe take the muzzle off and have a look inside, as I know the rob Allen carbon guns have a balancing weight in the muzzle....... But be careful as this weight is put in to counter act against the recoil of the gun so when removed the gun becomes very inaccurate due to a large amount of recoil. I found that my rob Allen gun felt really heavy at the muzzle (7mm spear and 20mm bands) so changed to a 6.3mm spear and 16mm bands and have never had a problem since. so it is ok to change the spear as long as you match it to the rubbers.

Hope this gives you a better insight Into gun set ups etc

Interesting point Scoobaru...
My rob allen 90's muzzle feels very heavy with the 7mm and the slight recoil takes a bit of getting used to (when I switch betwwen that and the lighter 75 cresi comanche).
I've actually gotten 2 7mm spears so I wish I'd heard about a lighter spear before getting a spare...
But what I have been told is to use a wine bottle cork at the muzzle to see if that improves things at all... I've yet to try it out, but I guess that could work with the omer also!

I'm not sure how similar the xxv is, but I have the omer cayman hf and it came with a small selection of small lead weights that fit inside either the muzzle or the handle of the gun i guess so you can fine tune the balance (maybe theres a similar kit for the xxv?)
I'm sure I read somewhere that adding weight to the handle won't affect the balance of the gun, it just adds ballast though?
Unfortunately I don't have the knowledge to suggest anything else but hopefully one of the more seasoned spearos will chime in with some more useable information than I have!
Sorry if I've made things confusing ....

Ah that makes sense with the cork. I've not heard that before. I had the heavy feeling with a rob Allen aluminium railgun so changed my setup to 6.3mm spear and 16mm rubbers, then I bought a 90 carbon with the same setup so the guns shoot the same. I've never had a problem with recoil or heavy feeling since so it may be worth a try. Let us k ow if you do try the cork idea as it will be interesting to see if it works

I was going to say add some buoyancy to the muzzle but wasn't sure whether at changing depth your gun would feel different as it became more/less buoyant? Maybe it would be too slight to notice though... You guys would know better than me anyway!

Omer xxv gold 90 is muzzle heavy, it the price you pay for a super slim barrel!

Mmmmm, yes I know its heavy at the muzzle. As I mentioned I dont want to change the spear unless I am left with no option as the xxv comes with a 5cm shorter than normal spear anyway. The cork idea sounds a possibility. It either needs flotation somehow at the muzzle end OR weight behind the handle. If there is space and the plugs arent right at the end there may be some room for cork or similar I'll have to check.I was hoping someone would have encountered the same problem with THIS gun(as its a very slim barrel) so different from others. It doesnt come with the option to add weights etc light the HF series.

Hardy any production round barrel guns are well balanced & most sink like a stone with the spear in place!
I dont think you can counterbalance the gun by adding wieght further back as there is no pivot point accept for your hand.
I own a xxv 90 & it is a good gun for what it is - fast tracking, high recoil and muzzle heavy. However it is only a little muzzle heavy - some Euro guns are much worse, my Triaxx is really bad but even faster tracking that the XXV!
I guess you have to compromise sometimes - anyhow if you really want to get a good underwater balance then you would have to add some form of buoyancy, cork or polystyrene can be used to fill the circular band hole, if you use individual bands that is, or you could go the whole way & fit a new style muzzle head....
My brother made this one out of some thick wall carbon, the hollow space inside the carbon has improved things a little but it is still muzzle heavy...however the design works great at aligning the bands

Do you know if there is space in there to put expanding foam in the end or does the plug come right to the end ?
Just read the other thread, so sorry about your brother.

The plug comes almost to the end, I am pretty sure there is just air inside.
My brother loved his gun fitted with a single 16mm circular band at very high stretch (3 x I think) but he did replace the rubbers quite often.
I know he was very keen to try a shark fin spear but had problems finding a 6.5mm with fins that was the right length so Dave's plan was to buy a longer spear & cut it down!
Lots of guys actually prefer a slightly muzzle heavy gun as they seem to offer a more accurate shot - maybe this is to do with the way you must hold the gun with a slightly flexed grip & this in turn always adds up to a consistent shot?
Personally I need a neutral balance other wise I just get wrist ache!

I would of thought the easy way would be to shape a few bottle corks by cutting them in half & sanding down to a nice shape.
First of all I would take the gun with a few corks & some electrical tape down to the sea & find out how much cork you need!
Once you have established the amount then think about where to put the cork....

Yep, that sounds good advice.I tried the XXV for a time with the closed muzzle single circular band(I have 2 rigged this way , a 90 and a 100) but for a time I tried a 135 6mm spear with small sharkfin tabs made by sigalsub.awesome spear in this gun.Worked for a time before it broke the transparent plastic bridge at the end.Despite the fact that I could have carried on using it and used the line over the spear at the muzzle method,I dont like that for UK waters as you cant load fast enough when theres a shoal of fish.Having the bridge on the end makes for faster loading. In the med I like that system but your shots tend to be fewer and more time between each one there.

i drank several bottles of wine so I had plenty of corks but afterwards was too pissed to remember what I wanted them for in the first place ; )
